Male cat looking "skinnier" after being neutered...

So our on year oldish male cat seems Ron be getting thinner after his neutering. It’s not like you can feel his ribs, and he doesn’t seem wormy ( no potbelly). He has a great appetite and his full of energy. Also his coat is not nearly as fluffy and plush as it was before neutering. Still a very healthy coat, it never been super shiny as he is a gray tabby. ( doesn’t get all glossy like our little black cat’s does )

I’m guessing it’s partly due to lack of testosterone, but is there anything else I should be worried about. He is an indoor cat and was dewormed and vaccinated when he wasn’t neutered.

He is active when he plays with dog and the other cat, so maybe he is just burning too many calories? That or he is doing a weird Benjamin Button sort of thing. I swear he looks more like a kitten every day.

How long has it been since he was neutered? Honestly, if he is alert, playing, eating, has energy, and is drinking I don’t think you need to be worried. If you really are and are seeing drastic weight loss call your vet, but after a surgery some weight loss is normal. If he is much more active than before change his diet… he may need more food for the increased activity.

He probably just has a higher metabolism than most fixed cats.

@rockonxox Its been a few months. Overall he is very active and seems happy. He and my beagle/JRt love to wrestle… like bear cub wrestle. And he and the younger cat chase and play together alot. So maybe he is just being more active now that he is neutered. Its just so weird. We use to call him our puma because he was so big and beefy looking. But now his face is thinner. It’s like he went from having a big round head like a british short hair to looking more sphinx like.
I was feeling his hips today and he isn’t skinny… we have had some older cats who lost lots of weight before their passing so I don’t think it a true health issue… Just weird.
@CanadianTrotter I’m hoping thats all it is. He is very active.

Thanks for everyone’s input!

I find with my cats that get a bit tubby coming into winter and slim down a bit in the spring.

I have also seen a number of Tom cats that have a very round chubby cheek look that I never see in neutered cats. I know when I see that shape face what I will see under the tail when they turn around. Normally that does not develop until they have been unneutered for a while past sexual maturity but maybe he developed that Tom cat face early.

That’s typical, especially if he was neutered older. I had a breeding male that was neutered about 8. He went from a massive looking muscled cat with a big head to much leaner. He lost that extra muscle he was carrying and the big male jowels.
