I have two Arabians, a 5 y/o gelding and an 11 y/o mare. I need to keep their manes and tails long and healthy, but as I am in high-school, I it can’t require much effort or time. Any I idea’s???
Shampoo, condition, braid, and bag the tail. Redo every week, or in fly season, every 3-4 days.
I get nice manes and tails by leaving them alone. Frequent brushing breaks off hairs and makes it hard to get them long and thick. I only brush after washing and spraying with a detangler. I don’t use a tail bag, personal preference. You must be looking forward to summer and spending lots of time with your horses!
Thanks for the tips!!! I will need to get tail bags, so as a side note, any good brands??? Thanks!!!
Great hair is also dependent on good nutrition so make sure what you’re feeding is top quality feed and hay. Ground flax seed can help as it nourishes the skin and hair. Also when I feed a hoof supplement (extra zinc and copper and biotin) it seems to help the quality of the mane and tail also.
Mane n tail detangler spray is your friend. Keeps the hair slick so it doesn’t snag on anything-fence, brush etc. I spray it in about twice a week and after baths, use a brush on Kane and fingers on tail.
Agreed on the bagging.
