Mane Extensions?

Has anyone used these for shows? I know plenty who use tail extensions, but not mane extension. It makes sense if a horse rips out a chunk of mane or if the mane is to short(naturally) to braid decently for dressage knots or hunter braids. My pony has a terrible mane, I managed to get it to grow out to about 4-5 inches, and then he decided to catch it on the fence. My other horse has a gorgeous mane, easily a foot and half long, and I don’t do anything different for the two of them. Their tails are the opposite, pony has a tail that hits the ground, the others tail barely goes past his hock.

If you do use them, how do you put them in? Do you sew them in, use clips, bonding glue, etc.?

What would be the purpose? Long manes get tangled and are hot in the Winter. Roaching manes for situations where they are terrible but being un-braided isn’t cool, is a good option, especially if the neck is pretty.

I’d imagine mane extensions would be $$$$, if they even exist.

I had a fun time learning about mane extensions a few weeks ago- just google the topic! Several companies in the US and UK sell them.
Extensions usually come in ‘hanks’, and there are ones that you bond/glue to existing mane, clip in sections and ones that you place under the mane to add volume when braiding. You can also buy ready made braids! (I always thought that a set of velcro braids for roached manes would be a great idea and now someone has stolen my brain wave!)
You can also get forelock extensions, again to clip in or even attached to the crown piece of the bridle.
Mane extensions are not out of the world expensive but most originate in China and I don’t like to think about the source…

I’d love to see some real life photos from someon who uses them.

Ha ha my horse needs a forelock extension! I don’t know how he manages to keep pulling it out.
