Mare at 10 months doesn't look pregnant

I have an older broodmare, not a maiden but hasn’t been bred in 10 or 11 years. She took easily on one cover. She was ultrasounded at 2 weeks and showed a small embryo. We did bloodwork and follow up ultrasound and both confirmed in foal.

She was palpated last month and the vet couldn’t feel the foal but said that the uterus was very large and it wouldn’t be unusual for her not to feel anything if the baby was lower. The vet is very petite (5’1ish and 90 pounds) and the mare is a big draft cross so I wasn’t worried.

But now, looking at the mare who is at day 305 and honestly doesn’t look pregnant. She’s not hanging low nor does she stick out on front or back views. The vet is coming back out Thursday and will re-palpate and if she can’t feel anything, I’m going to ask her to redo the bloodwork. She’s not bagged up but she also hasn’t come back into heat so…

Is this situation unusual? Should I be looking for other signs at this point? I’m worried that she slipped the foal or has a phantom pregnancy.

Def go the blood work again.

The last mare i bred i foaled at my vets. Moved 2weeks before due and vet insisted on palpating her as she carried etc. I knew for sure as id watched her shape change etc but he had to check. So you may be lucky…figers crossed for you

Definitely have the vet check blood. I was working for a lady with a mare that was due, looked pregnant, and produced milk but had aborted the fetus (was confirmed pregnant twice before that). Good luck and hope that isn’t the case.
