Mare/foal boarding in Colorado?

I have a friend that is going to vet school in Colorado. She has a mare that she wants to breed and right now she is thinking about keeping her in California where she is now to breed.

I told her I would ask around for prices to board her mare and also keep her there while the baby grows up.

She shows in hunters and will breed to a hunter stallion. Her mare has shown hunters for the last 10 years.

She might even like to take the foal to hb classes in Colorado as the baby grows up.

Any ideas on breeding farms or places that foal out and board mares and foals?

Also please pm me with prices.

Thank you!

And I think it would be a VERY nice place to have a mare and foal. They have a few babies every year, I think. Run by people who know what they’re doing.

Finding decent mare and foal board in Northern Colorado especially is TOUGH.

premiere breeding in kiowa, colorado.
crooked willow farms in sedalia i believe?
and might also try calling a couple repo clinics…

Anyone near fort Collins?

The barn I posted IS in Fort Collins, Samotis. It’s about 2.5 miles east of the highway, between Harmony and Prospect. Their driveway is perhaps 100 feet out of the city proper.

I have not found any other mare/foal board in Fort Collins, after nearly 10 years of living here.

Royal Vista MAY also do mare and foal board, but after driving past there every week…I’d not recommend it. http://www.royalvistaequine.com/ They seem to be great for breeding services, though.

Finding good board, period, in the Fort Collins area is TOUGH. Finding mare and foal board? Good luck. Not many options, unless perhaps you can find a private party who takes one or two boarders.

This may also be an option: http://stonehousemeadows.com/

Wellington is about 20-30 minutes north of FTC, depending on where you’re coming from.

Caveat: I’ve not been out there, haven’t talked to them or met them. Stacey Tarr is a retired vet who was very well respected when he was practicing. If I were looking for mare and foal board, though, I would give them a call and see if they did anything like that, and if so, find out what their place was like.

Karen Reidlinger (also a vet, guessing on the spelling of the last name) may also be worth talking to. She has a nice facility up in Wellington and does repro work…or at least used to, several years ago.

In Northern Colorado that is going to be hard. I went to school there & kept sending my horse home every few months because of lack of quality trainers, shows & boarding. Of course I wasn’t breeding at the time.
Royal Vista is a knowledgeable facilty, CSU would be fine to foal out at if their facilty is back up & running from the fire last year. I know when I boarded at Fort Collins Equestian Center they foaled out/boarded a few but they aren’t into breeding & they seem to have changed their requirement for boarding. Plus, the fencing isn’t ideal for babies either.
If I were you I would either leave my horse in CA or if you don’t mind being an hour or two away I would sent her South.
South there are some nice foaling places; Premier Breeding in Kiowa, Swede Gulch Farm in Golden who has a great facilty. I used Acadia Equine Rehab. to foal out my last filly they are in Franktown but they have changed facilty since. I know there are a few more out there.
Best of luck!!
