Mare on Camelot horse weekly

Large dark bay mare with a supposed brand. Poster that hauled this mare and one other to the auction claiming that she used to be owned by the Chapot’s.

Anyone recognize her or have a way to contact the Chapot’s to find out if she was one of their horses. I’m sure they would want to know if she’d fallen on hard times.

Guess they are saying that she is a tattooed TB mare and they are aware of her identity. If they know who she is why do they not post those things? People would be more apt to take a second look if they provided that information.

They don’t want people harassing former owners while the horse is still in danger.

I get that but this is a older broodmare and any for that matter. Things like pedigree etc are factors to many/most buyers. If you can’t find out who she is that severely limits who might be willing to take her on.

I get that the crazy’s calling previous owners messes things up. As we have seen on this board there are A LOT of responsible breeders that would take one of their own back in a heart beat if they were to be in this sort of situation. I’d want the phone call.

Here’s a better photo and more description of the brand

#912
912: Solid dark bay Thoroughbred brood mare with blaze. Has lip tattoo and brand on neck, super sweet in pen and led thru. Age:15 Height:16h~~~$200.00 (Sarah’s note: the neck brand is NOT a racing freezebrand. It looks like some sort of non-racing identification)

Are there any warmbloods who freeze brand necks for approved mares? Anyone guess on if she is pregnant?

#912 came in with #911
#911

There is also an “aged” qh in foal
#906

The brands if #'s maybe Mckey racing from WVA…are they freeze brand numbers 2-3 digits or fire brands??

Mckey freeze brands every mare w/ a # and his foals get branded every year w/ mares number…

The Chapot’s have never sent a horse to an auction. Their broodmares live their lives out at the farm once they are retired from breeding. So let’s keep their name out of it since it just seems to be hearsay.

The Westfalen used to neck brand mares that were not Westfalen but were approved for breeding - but that stopped well over a decade ago.

As I always post - for those people who send their mares to the “killer sale” - which is what most of these Auctions are - they are heartless bottom feeders. And unless that mare was being well fed and on pasture (which wouldn’t make sense if she was dumped at the killer sale) - she looks likes she’s in foal to me.

Dear Tango no where in my post did I insinuate that the Chapot’s sent the mare to auction. The girl who drove the mares to auction stated the man she recieved them from said the mare in question USED to be one of their jumpers. My intent was simply that if the mare in question was ever owned by them that they might like to know she’d fallen on hard times. They are good people and would be upset to know she had found herself in these circumstances. People sell horses everyday they might have owned her as a yearling for all we know the point being that there are good breeders and people like the Chapot’s that would be greatful if someone told them one of their ex horses was in trouble. No need to defend them your missing your mark.

Someone who is familiar with their brands has been in touch with me and the brands are similar but not a match for the McKee brand.

It does look like the brands are identification for a large breeding operation, if I had to guess. The darker bay mare is really sweet. I’d love to know her story. She is indeed a Thoroughbred.

It is indeed a difficult situation for the volunteers who try to help these horses.

We were allowed to release information in the past about name, etc, but it became a problem when previous owners who had no contact with the horses for many years were being called and threatened by strangers. I wish we could still pass the information along to the public, but a few really bad apples ruined it for everyone.

The volunteers do look up as many tattoos and registered names as we possibly can and reach out to as many breeders, owners, and trainers as possible.

Just two weeks ago, a Thoroughbred owner took back two horses, thanks to the efforts of the people who contacted them. They had no idea their horses had ended up at auction and they were really upset that the person they thought was a reputable hunter/jumper trainer turned around and sold them so quickly. It did my heart good to hear that they took their horses back to safety.

Sarah, I’m sure you hear this allllll the time, but your photography is incredible. Your understanding and use of light and exposure mystifies me. Thank you for doing photos of the Camelot horses, I’m sure your shots have helped get many homes.

Sarah, thank you for the time and work you put into this. You are a gem.

Thank you both!

I started doing photos of auction and rescue horses in January 2010 and my rough estimate is that I’ve photographed over 2,000 horses already  It gets overwhelming when I think of how many horses need homes out there, but this network is a great start and I’ve heard some really amazing success stories that make it all worthwhile.

I didn’t intend to accuse you of anything, sorry if it came out that way. I quoted you just to use as a reference point. There was already another post on this topic before you posted yours. These threads tend to run off the track rather quickly with people making accusations before knowing the facts. I wasn’t referring to you specifically in my post. It was intended for any crazy yahoo that comes on here ranting and raving about people sending horses to auction when they are done with them. So no, I’m not missing my mark
