Mare-sharing--free broodmare leases!

New thread for mare-sharing! Same concept as before, but we wanted to give a clean slate for the new year with listings that are more current.

Here’s the previous thread, for reference, and to bridge the gap into this one.

You’re welcome to copy a post/relist a mare or a request from the previous thread and add it to this one.

Here’s the skinny on the concept, for those not familiar:

We wanted to offer a place separate from the Giveaways forum where breeders offering or looking for FREE broodmare lease opportunities could get in touch with each other. So here it is!

Mare owners looking to rehome their girls are still welcome to post in Giveaways, but we thought keeping most of broodmare lease-specific posts confined to one thread here would be more convenient and organized and allow Giveaways to stay a bit better focused on true rehoming situations.

A few guidelines:

Leases must be FREE, except for taking over the horse’s expenses.

To make the posts more clear, start off with a Bold Title that makes some of the basic info clear, such as whether it’s a WANTED or AVAILABLE situation, some basics on the mare and your LOCATION.

Thanks!

Two Thorougbreds available for lease in Northern California

I posted on the old thread a week or so ago, but I guess it’s more appropriate to post on this one… I’m offering two Thorougbred mares for breed lease in 2010.

I’m going to need to cut back in 2010, and am offering two TB mares for free breed lease. They can stay here and you just pay boarding (~200-$250 a month, its just feed costs, and that varies), or can go to your facility if it is safe.

Both mares are currently in foal, they both caught first try this year, and I have biopsy reports on both, they are both IIA’s, and both have Caslicks in (the farm they came from does that for all their mares…). Neither are riding sound (not due to breakdowns on the racetrack, both mares are unraced, freak accidents).

First is Queen Tyree (Huckster xx/ Riverman xx/ Nashua xx), or “Trea”. She’s a 1998 bay mare with a star. Bigger in type, nice bone. Jockey Club registered. Really a sweet, sweet mare. Produces substantial offspring with SUPER minds, I can send you photos and a couple videos if you email me. Produced one winner on the track, the others have gone onto be nice sporthorses with great jumps. Trea is about 16.2 hands. Has good hooves. Lives fairly well in a herd environment, I don’t put her in with super-dominant horses though, as I’m afraid she’d just get too beat up. Still needs to be presented to a registry for approval, she’s in foal to Redwine for 2010, and I was planning to present her to GOV with the foal… but if someone really wanted to go with ISR/OLD instead, that might be negotiable. I’ll pay for her Inspection with OLD NA or GOV… any other registry you would need to pay for. This truely is a super mare, a great find for sporthorse breeding. Had a pelvic fracture as a two year old. Healed fine, and has had five foals with absolutly no problems. Hence the ‘divet’ you see on her right hip area. She is due to foal May 18, 2010.

Kate’s Unique (Pembroke xx/ Prove Out xx/ Turn-To xx) is a lovely chestnut mare, also with awesome bloodlines. Sweet as can be. Around 16.1 hands, Jockey Club registered, and entered into the MMB of OLD/NA. Great hunter type, produces beautiful offspring. Gets along fine in a herd, but I don’t like putting her in with very dominant horses either. Gorgeous head, I have some photos of her offspring available too… produces very leggy foals from what I’ve seen (her foals have all been flashy and elegant). She is due to foal June 11, 2010.

Basically I’m not likely going to be able to breed them this year, and I would like for them both to have a job. I would pay for their feed & upkeep until the 2010 foals are weaned, then they could move to your facility, or you take over their upkeep costs. I usually wean at about 5 months, depending. I can trailer them to UC Davis, Pioneer, or Loomis Basin if you’d like to have them bred at any of those places… they are near me. I can get breeding records together if you’d like. Like I mentioned above, both took first try this year. I use Oxytocin as a standard protocal on all mares. I had a breeding soundness exam done on Katie before I got her this Spring, and would be more than happy to share that with anyone interested. I got Trea without having that done. Kate’s last foal was born in February 2009, Trea’s last foal was in Spring 2007.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

After much consideration, I’ve decided that Riva is not going to be bred anymore, so I’m removing her from this list. She is going to get to be a pasture potato for the rest of her life.

Available: TBx pony mare w/ LOTS of interesting traits.

Chelsea’s Christian is full sister to 2000 Nat’l Champion (s/m greens) “I Don’t Know” and to “Chelsea’s Rennaisaince,” dam of Royalty, who was 2009 Devon Res. Best Young Pony; 3/4 sister to 2007 Nat’l Champion (overall) “Theodore O’Connor” and (maternal) half sister to Florida State Champion (sm gr pony hunter) Yet Another Karacter (and the original Karacter, WEF Tourn. of Champions, res. ch) and quite a few others. Like herself, her babies have tended to, rather oddly, grow all “of one piece,” never rump high or awkward. Her eldest has competed in hunters, jumpers and eventing.

She is available for free lease because I have expanded my broodmare band x2 this year and Chrissy is too closely related to my own stallion. She is currently in foal to Land’s End The Colonel’s Fox for early April, but I would allow her to leave the farm w/ or w/o that foal at side under the right conditions. She is 13.0h, age 11, and while perfectly sound, has never been broke to ride (but could be–she is sweet, willing and generally enthusiastic about everything, especially if it involves getting attention!). I would also be willing to pasture board her here, temporarily or until her foal is weaned, as I do the AI myself and am only 1/2 mile from a vet clinic which can do the prep, palp, ultrasound, etc.

In Maryland

2001 TB proven broodmare, by Awad out of a Pleasant Colony mare, 16.3h bay with three small socks and a stripe. Very pretty, lovely topline and head, plenty of bone, good mover. Picture is of her 2yo TB filly. $650 neg. Would include a breeding to our stallion Legaczy for additional cost to the right home.

Wanted: Warmblood or Pony mare (small/med) In/Near VA

Looking for a FREE LEASE on either a Warmblood mare or a Pony mare (small or medium) in VA or surrounding states. I have a breeding already paid for for a large BRP who stands in VA. I would pay for all the vet fees. Would prefer to bring up to my place in Ontario, Canada. If you have any leads please email me at

This mare has been spoken for - thanks!

AHS Mare Available

I am a considering a free broodmare lease for my AHS mare this year. Things in my world aren’t conducive to me working her under saddle, so she is just sitting in my parents’ front yard - which makes her happy, but she could be doing a lot more with her life! She is a 2001 model, very slowly greying, and she has had one foal by Regazzoni, a chestnut going grey filly, in 2007. She was easy to get in foal (one try), had a breeze of a pregnancy/foaling, and was a wonderful mom. We haven’t tried to breed her since.

She is a large, older style mare. She stands just shy of 16.3 and is large bodied. She’s got great, dinner platter feet, so she has been barefoot her entire life.

I would like to keep her relatively close, but would be willing to allow her to travel further if the home felt right.

TB mare either on or off farm free lease- KY

No Discipline is a 15.3h TB mare, 1995, her pedigree is here:

http://www.pedigreequery.com/no+discipline

She had a lovely filly by Sinclair B last yr.
She could be bred to my stallion Cape Pogue here, for either a racing baby or a sporthorse prospect. She has had a few racing babies. I would allow her to go off farm at a suitable place, or just pay her way here at my place. She is an easy foaler, lives out yr round and likes it. She is a bit dominant in the herd.

youtube available of her and filly.

Available in VA:Stunning hunter type Appendix mare for free, off-farm lease

I have a mare that I would like to find a free lease situation for, one season or possibly long term to the right home. She does not fit my breeding goals (dressage) but is a lovely mare for a hunter, hunter pony, or AQHA sport horse breeding program. She has top HUS breeding and lovely hunter type and movement. She is a 16 h, 1999 bay sired by Art I Sweet out of a TB mare. She is also approved for breeding in the ISR registry. She is a very pretty, correct mare with an intelligent, sensible disposition. She has been bred three times to three very different stallions, the resulting foals have all inherited her pretty head and great temperament. Her last foal (2008), an Irish Sport Horse, won the young stock championship at the IDHSNA 2009 annual show.

Some other facts - she is easy to work with, great with vet and farrier, a good mom, gets along with others in pasture. She is DNA tested homozygous black. She is pasture sound but not sound to ride, offered for broodmare lease only.

I love this mare and want to make sure she’ll be well cared for. Will need references.

PM me for more information and photos

I have a 7 year old grey Welsh mare that I would like to lease out for a year or two. She’s by Elite Earl Grey and out of Adrienne’s Jewel (dam of Wellen Red Rock and Wellen Rosetta). She’s 12.1 and is an awesome mover. She has had one foal…

I also have an 11 year old TB mare that I’d be willing to lease. She is bay and 15.2 with a gorgeous babydoll head and nice conformation. She is a lovely mover. She has had 3 lovely foals. The first is a nice hunter, the 2nd was sold as an event prospect, and the most recent of the three (this year’s foal) sold at a week old. All of them have her beautiful head.
http://s155.photobucket.com/albums/s300/fenwayfarm/Hannah/

I’d also consider leasing a couple of others since I don’t have plans to breed myself this year:

Shenandoah Dulcimer: a coming 4 year old grey Welsh A mare. She is just over 12.1. She is by Farnley Magic Flute and out of Shenandoah Windchime (by Severn Snapdragon). She has a beautiful head with huge eyes and tiny ears. She is a huge mover. LEASED!!

The King Sisters: Sophie is a 13 year old TB mare. She is 15.3 and dark bay. She had a lovely TB filly this year, but late in the season, so we didn’t breed her back. She is also the dam of Stoneledge Adelie who was Reserve Champion Pony Filly at Devon in 2007.

Please PM me or email me at fenwayfarm@yahoo.com for more information.

Availible in Northern Virginia Palomino JC Mare

I have a 2005 JC registered Palomino mare for lease. She has not been ridden (she is way too small for me) but she could be. Super sweet and kind.

She is petite. I’d need to stick her to be sure, but I think she is under 14h. She is out of a mare from the same female family as Mr. Prospector.

Good choice for fancy pony breeding.

Edit to add- I sorta measured her today (no mean feat considering the monsoon we had this week) and I would put her at about 14h.

PM for more information.

Lg Pony Mare - TBX avail for lease/foal share agreement

GaLa’s Stardust Legacy, aka “Diamond” 8 yrs, 14.1, Grey, has had 2 foals, due to foal 4/2010 (1st foal born 2008, 2nd foal 2009) this will be her 3rd foal.

Diamond is very easy to live with has no vices, sound, could be ridden while pregnant if you desire, clips, stands for farrier, ties, clips, practically loads herself on a trailer - EXCELLENT mother, easy to breed.

This mare is the 3rd generation of my breeding - very nice mover, absolutely correct conformation, in 2003 Diamond was Region 3, YEARLING Hunter Pony Champion, VPBA, VHSA & MHSA Yearling Pony Hunter Champion.

Diamond was easy to break, as in, they put the saddle on and rode off, and she never put a foot wrong, honest willing jumper with excellent form over fences.

I am starting to feel my age, and just don’t want to deal with raising the babies any more - I would love a foal share arrangement, but am open to a free lease for expenses and you would have to carry full mortality insurance during term of lease. Prefer lease to be in VA so I can come visit.

Diamond is too nice a pony to just stand in the field looking gorgeous - email me for photos - have lots of her and her babies

PSB Trakehner Mare by Pennant Available - VA

I will not be breeding this year and have a 1996 Anglo-Trakehner mare, approved PSB, available with or without a breeding to any Hilltop stallion. Caliente is 16.1 h., dark bay, has had two foals, most recently a 2009 colt by Special Memories Pg who scored all 8’s at his inspection and was the “Best Non-TB Foal” at the Warrenton Horse Show. She is pasture sound, but can no longer be ridden due to an injury. She is sweet, no vices, a very easy keeper.

2005 MMB Holsteiner Mare Carpaccio/Aljano (Colorado)

No longer available…

Beautiful Anna is a '94 chestnut TB mare, standing 15.3hh, by Codex’s Reflection and out of Rapid Beauty. She was previously owned by Swan Lake Stables where she was a favorite amongst the students for their A & B rated hunter & jumper shows.

Pedigree here: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/beautiful+anna

She produced a few foals for them I believe, by their Trakehner stallion, but after he was gelded they no longer had a need for a broodmare & we obtained her.

Her '09 colt is very correct, personable, and scored a 75.25% overall at his inspection & earning Blue Preferred staus.

Anna has a lovely head, good overall conformation, and is a sweet tempered mare that does well turned out in our mixed mare & gelding pasture, where she is in the middle of the pecking order.

Due to my personal issues, etc., we are very open to placing her in a permanent home, as well as leasing options. References required in both situations.

Thank you for your consideration.

I may consider my mare. She is currently waiting her '10 foal ('09 foal was also by Wedderlie Mardi Gras and he was Premium Weser-ems). I get her back when weaned but she could be bred.

*Imported from Germany Palomino Sabino ZfDP registered large bodied mare
*15.3 hands (seems to produce big. Her pony foal looks like he will mature small horse)

  • She is approved for breeding GOV, RPSI and Weser-ems.

PM for pics. I also have an old video of her

I have a registered half welsh mare (WPCSC) by Rotherwood Crown Prince out of Beaverwoods Orchid who is by Beaverwoods Cricket. Great hunter pony breeding. She is 14 - 14.1 hands. I would free lease her out as a broodmare. She has a lovely temperament and great markings. Three stockings and big white blaze. Email or PM if interested. Thanks in advance! Pictures, info and pedigree on my website. Would also consider selling her.
