Mares not showing heat

I have some broodmare prospects which showed good heat in the spring but have not shown heat since. I’ve been teasing them to 2 stallions without success. I was told that they never show heat after their initial heat cycle.

Is this a hormonal problem, or what? My vet checked them during their initial cycle & said they were in fine shape.

As an actual breeder, I’m sure you know more about this stuff than me, but… IME some mares just don’t show. I bred my mare last year and would never ever have guessed when she was in heat without ultrasounding… she got in foal with one breeding and had an easy pregnancy/foaling. Never saw any signs of a foal heat, either. shrugs As a rider, I’m thrilled to have a mare who doesn’t show heat!

Glad I’m not the only one with this problem!!! I have a teaser out with my mares and keep a daily chart year round noting such things. I had mares in heat through a good part of the winter and into April, early May and now nothing!! Had two in heat at the same time, decided to breed one and wait on the other (we live cover) and the first mare is preg., second mare has never come back in and now its 100 degrees!! DH says it’s too hot to breed so we’ll wait again. It has happened this way ever since moving to OK!

Some maiden mares don’t break down to the teaser, because they really are clueless as to what is going on. This happened to a mare I bred Saturday in fact! Best way is ultrasound, so you can see what is going on. It can be very frustrating!

Oh - Ive got that T shirt as well!!!

My Puchi Trap and Nightlight mares cycled like fiends through January, February and March and then nada - not a single thing through April and most of May. Great … so they both got needled in, and were bred early June and are being checked on the 24th

And this is with my stallion across from them in the barn and 10 feet away from them in his paddock beside them. Usually an idiot can tell when they are cycling - they plant themselves in the corner and dont leave the fence line and he stays with them all day. This year - nothing for 2 months … it was SO frustrating is right!!!
