Marking tack

Just got a new martingale - its raised within”fancy stitching” Nd there’s no place to put a name plate on it. My other martingales always had a spot for one. So other than getting a round dog or bridle tag what do my COTH experts do as an alternative?
ideas suggestions appreciated. Thanks

On the “understrap” that attaches to the girth?

I think it’s padded all the way to the girl that loop - I’ve never had martingale that didn’t have a couple of flat areas. It was not expensive…

Use leather stamping tools to put your ID into the leather

I have what I believe is a wood burning tool that is my initials. It works amazing on leather.

What about on the very top of the flat strap where the holes are? I have one similar - even under the flat strap it is raised, but once adjusted to my horse it’s got some space on the top of the holes (so, where you’d put it if it’s on the shortest setting). My guy is big so it’s all the way down and my plate is on the top part of the holes.

I use leather stamps instead of metal plates and tags.

Leather stamping tool is what I was thinking of - I remember people used those and burning tools - back in the day when George Morris would make comments like “I think i see a glint of brass on…” he wasn’t a fan haha.

I have a martingale where the plate was put on that flat portion of the leather just before the loop that the girth goes through. Its on the INSIDE of those two pieces of leather so it doesn’t matter if the outside of it is raised or padded. You can’t even see the plate, you have to be looking for it. I often wonder if I sell that martingale if anyone will ever discover the name plate.

yes, I’ll have to look at the spot too. I just surprised that there is so little flat area on this particular martingale. This is mainly so when trainer is schooling my youngster it doesn’t get lost. If worst comes to worst I’ll get a dog id tag but Im really not too big of a fan of those, but it’s not the end of the world if I need.

Appreciate everyone’s suggestions.

I can email you pictures if you want to PM your email to me. I’m not sure I did a very good job of explaining its location.

that’s okay. I thought they used to make tiny plates but not seeing in Dover or Smartpak, this weekend I might actually go into the store and see what they have and take the dang martingale with me. it’s pretty funny none of my other tack has any nameplates on them so why the Assist trainer asked is kind of funny. Plus it’s cob size and we have ponies and horses, 3 cobs, the other 2 have their own tack. Going with the flow as it were.

have a great weekend

Mine is the regular bridle plate size, there is actually more than enough space on that part of the martingale. Let us know how you make out at the tack store, that’s where mine was put on.

Because she had them as a child and in her last place and hadn’t noticed that the rest of your tack hasn’t got them. Thus are born so many “traditions” fixed in stone!

You can put the nameplate on the strap that goes between the legs and attaches to the girth, or you can get a leather stamp and find a discreet place to stamp your name or initials.

Hehe. Now that George is persona non grata, you can put your brass all over.

I have been putting dog tags on my strap goods since HRH GHM has been telling us not to back in yestercentury. I was right, but it has been a long, long wait.

Oh, and when I found a silver/brushed nickel version after I had become a DQ? That’s right: I got some silver ones for my black tack.

I have silver plates on my black tack too  those took me forever to hunt down!! …

A hunter princess will not be denied. Also, all tack, even black tack, has to be soft.

haha. I’m not sure why brass nameplate when 99/9% of the time the buckles are silver. I actually went into a tack store today and found 1 very small nameplate - which might work and a small round tag that will definitely work and not so big that it would scream “school horse” Not that there’s anything wrong with school horses haha.

I’m a failure as a hunter princess. None of my tack as any glint of any brass or chrome, no monograms cooler. Even worse my saddles still have the saddle maker plate instead of my name . Worst of all, I’m not obsessed with the “it” saddle, helmet, x brand breeches, shirts/jackets, or boots.:lol:
