Marquis vs Rebalance EPM

So there was no fever involved? Do you at all think that your horse had been suffering from anaplasmosis all along? My horse has been sensitive to touch alternating with wanting to be groomed hard, particularly on hindquarters.

No fever, just weird hypersensitivity to touch that was worse on the left side. She may have had anaplasmosis all along but she was positive to Pathogenes blood test for epm and did respond to the epm meds. She was never neurological and rode fine, but just wasnā€™t her normal friendly self. Sheā€™s loved at my farm since she was 6 months old and is now 10yrs old, so I know her and fortunately my vet doesnā€™t discount my concerns.

Iā€™ve also had to treat her for ulcers despite the fact that she lives outside with constant forage.

So I tried him on Nano-E when I was treating him with Rebalance and he wouldnā€™t eat it on top of his grain, which is critical to the success of the barn employees remembering to give it - has to go in food. Iā€™ve had this problem with my boy before where he just doesnā€™t like liquid additives to his food (including oil). Heā€™ll toss the bucket around so violently that he dumps everything out. I tried a ground feeder pan and he REALLY dumps everything out with those. No such issues as long as what Iā€™m putting in his feed isnā€™t liquid :woman_shrugging: So now heā€™s on a pelleted vitamin E supplement that I think is lipid soluble but he will eat it with his feed and the guys are good about remembering to toss the premeasured amount in his grain since itā€™s all set up for them.

This is great! My vet and I decided to try Protazil since heā€™ll happily eat the pellets but was becoming aggrieved about oral medication after 6 weeks of ReBalance. Heā€™s still weak in that leg and Iā€™m trying to stay hopeful. He was very unbalanced on that leg when he had to be sedated for a recent dental float - couldnā€™t even flip his toe so his hoof would lie flat on the ground and I had to help steady him by gently pulling on his tail. None of his other three feet had that problem so it was like the sedation kind of unmasked the symptoms for a bit.

I use the human capsules available on Amazon. Lipid soluble is fat soluble, which is not water soluble. You need water soluble for neurological benefits.

All vitamin E is fat-soluble as a vitamin. Itā€™s a bit confusing LOL

Nano-E, Emcelle, and Elevate W.S. (water-soluble) have been nano-dispersed (first) and micellized (last 2) so that they skip the conversion process in the body and therefore have higher bioavailability

Everything else is ā€œnormalā€ vitamin E. But all that matters is whether what youā€™re giving is keeping his blood level where itā€™s supposed to be

Not exactly  Any form that gets and keeps a normal blood level is good. There are EPM horses who only need a regular Vit E to keep a healthy level. There are some non-EPM horses who are so low they need a water-soluble version, and usually, but not always, can then transition to a regular version after the w-s version gets their level to normal
