Maryland 5*

Mine froze constantly yesterday

Is it camera angle or just extraordinary hindquarter engagement, but these horses look less angular than the usual event horse physique.

eta: Ah, probably the difference between a 3* and 5* horse.

Any word on Boyd after that fall? He withdrew Barney Rubble.

Sinead said she saw him walking the 5 course but I imagine he’s feeling a little sore

Some sketchy riding in the 3*. I wish the commentators wouldn’t “condone” it with too much positivity. On the other hand. Sharon white was flawless in how to ride smart AND fast.

Edited cuz I wasn’t reading for comprehension…again

Looks like Ariel Grald got a dangerous riding in the 3*. (Her horse looked very tired at the end of the course). But she still has results & she wasn’t pulled up. I wonder if she will be eliminated? (Does DR=E?)

I just rewatched her round because I was curious about her DR - he was definitely looking tired through the last water around the rest of the course. I’m honestly surprised she wasn’t pulled up, despite his form still looking okay.

In 5* updates, Jessica Phoenix has withdrawn Fluorescent Adolescent before XC. Looks like Boyd intends to give it a go.

I have mixed feelings about the “one fall you’re are done for the day” rule, especially when one is jumped out of the tack, lands on feet holding the reins, (or maybe it only applies to non pro riders, or on non FEI competitions, or another exemption I am not aware of).

sounds like Boyd took a very hard fall, there was a hold on course, after 10 or so minutes Boyd was able to walk to the vehicle that drove him back to the stables.

He withdrew his 2nd 3* horse, likely bc of his fall an hour earlier.

These professional riders are incredible strong, resilient, etc. and the kind of hit that would knock most amateurs out of the saddle for a week, they try to shrug off and ride XC a couple hours later.

but I cannot help but question the wisdom of a rider being allowed to jump around a 5* course later that same day.

I was surprised too. Honestly I was watching the stream holding my breath, I had the live results pulled up too so I knew they where safe before the stream showed it. But I was thinking they should be pulled up - I think the commentators thought so too.

That’s not looking great for Lillian…

Does Corvette look sluggish to anyone else? Wondering if the terrain is getting to him, don’t usually see her having to push so hard.

Great horsemanship from Harry today.

Anyone else noticing how pretty the course is? Trees might not be at peak colors in Maryland right now, but they are showing off. It seems especially noticeable at the first water. It also helps that it’s a gorgeous day in general

But man, this course seems pretty challenging, though the time is achievable.

These flag penalties are getting out of control. You can see so many of these horses trying to do the question correctly.

i think they may be applying the 15 penalties if it is at all uncertain, then later removing them upon review

I think you’re right. Makes the scoring difficult to figure out though.

course is definitely tiring some.

That’s what $1.5M gets you!
