Maryland: Hit by car and disappeared

Location: Poolesville, MD (Route 109 between 107 and 28)

Around 9 pm Sunday night a loose horse was struck by a car on Route 109 (Beallsville Rd). S/he lay still for a few minutes before getting up and limping away. The car had significant damage so the horse’s injuries may be life-threatening, though there is no evidence of significant external bleeding. Last known direction of travel was north along the shoulder of Route 109 (towards Darnestown Rd).

The horse may be a chestnut gelding who has only been in the area for a few days and previously lived in Frederick, MD.

Anyone in the area please report any sightings or evidence of a loose/injured horse to Montgomery County Animal Services at 301-279-8000 (general non-emergency number for MC).

Thank you and jingles for this horse!

I’m happy to report the horse was recovered a few miles from home yesterday! He is a little battered but not nearly as badly off as we feared.
