Does anyone have any experience with Max E Glo (stabilized rice bran pellets) or Legends Omega Plus? My daughter’s mare has been doing excellent on the Max E Glo as far as weight and coat sheen, but my friend at the barn swears by the Legends Omega Plus, and gave me her last bag only because her vet had her pull hers off due to being too easy of a keeper to keep adding it into her program. I opened the Omega Plus and it smells heavenly. I have started incorporating it into my OTTB’s feed regimen but only for a week. I figure I will feed this bag and see if I see a difference in her condition, but in the meantime am curious if anyone prefers one over the other. I am mainly looking to it as a source of fat, because my OTTB will not touch most supplements, oils, etc. She would rather starve herself. Any supplement I have ever added she turns her nose up at, and refuses to touch her grain, however she does gobble her feed up with the Omega Plus in it. All 3 of my horses are on a high quality grain and balanced, quality forage and pasture. I don’t really want to have to buy two different bags of things, if I don’t have to, mainly because of lack of storage space at my boarding barn, and ease of feeding/less confusion when people need to pick up a feeding or two for me. Also, I hate to take my daughter’s mare off the Max E Glo and go to something that in the end isn’t going to give me as much benefit, if it won’t. Thanks everyone!
All you can do is try a bag or 2 and see. Neither of them are the right thing for every horse. Either of them will work fine for some horses.
I feed the Legends Omega Plus to a picky pony. It works great for him, he is shiny, healthy, and I haven’t had issues with his allergies since he has been on it. It will add weight fairly quickly and a little bit goes along way. A previous barn used to feed it to hard keepers and they all got a little plump on it.
I prefer to use a fat based feed to put weight on, at least for my guy, otherwise he gets too hot and reactive for my kids to ride. So far no issues at all with the Legends Omega Plus even with the higher NSC.
You can get ground flax for a fraction of the price of the Omega Plus.
You can if your horse will eat it. My picky guy will not touch it. He’s picky.
Thanks everyone! Giving the Legends Omega Plus a shot on my OTTB and if she does well on it will change my daughter’s horse over to it
