Have loved reading this diversion, what a lovely change to the tone of the thread!
I’ve got a few, not all dressage related…
As a kid I was besotted about show jumping and went to watch any shows held locally.
I was bitten by Tigre when I went to stroke him and got balled out by Caroline Bradley for being in the way. He was quite feisty….so was she! 🫣
I held Sanyo Video for Robert Smith whilst he nipped to the loo. All 4’6 of 11 Yr old me hanging on
Dressage wise I’ve met Carl a few times and visited his yard as part of a group visit - stroked Valegro, been to their loo
I’ve had an online barney with Dane Rawlins, and a good friend was a long time friend of CDJ’s mum and knew her most of her life - so by association she’s like my best friend too
Eventing: My lovely horse was trained and competed by the current Olympic gold medalist- yes, my bum sits where Laura Collett’s once did!!
It was so weird. There was no one there who knew who he was or even bothered to watch. I would have thought there would have been a crowd trying to get autographs but no one seemed to appreciate his greatness.
I owned an Abdullah daughter for a bunch of years…Does that qualify for honorable mention?
Has anyone had an Anky encounter other than seeing her from the rail?
Would not want one.
I saw Scott Hamilton and (I think) Evgeni Plushenko dragging their carry-ons along the practically deserted concourse while I was waiting for a very early morning flight. I called to Scott and when he turned around I thanked him for bringing so much joy to my life. I don’t know what he had been expecting me to say, but he gave me a huge smile, a wave, and went on his way.
I’m an Olympic skater! And I do back flips!
I love Scott Hamilton!
Who wouldn’t?
While suggesting that his crush, ISF, was crossing their WBs with Friesians to bulk them up.
Can you imagine what the KWPN of FHANA would say?
🤦
I mean, if you’re so enamored, don’t you learn a bit about it?
Well, since we are now going outside horses…
My aunt took my cousins to an Aerosmith concert a long time ago. I don’t remember exactly what happened but they were outside the complex and ran into Steven Tyler. He got security to help them and before they left he unexpectedly kissed my aunt on the lips.
We also shared a plane with Blue October once. It was a long walk from baggage claim to the rental cars, and the lead singer and my grandson, who was 5 at the time, chit chatted the whole way.
I do too, though I’m more of a Kurt Browning girl myself.
OK, since we’ve gone happily off topic, my friend and I were invited by John Lee Hooker to an after party but we were too shy to go.
So does that mean that I can boogie on down? Why, yes, it does! Just not in front of The Master.
I had a filly out of one of his grandsons. There was an accident and she had to be put down; she did not get to live up to her potential. He had a tragic end too. Both caused by ignorant people.
Volturno had been shipped to US to breed. At the quarantine, he had another horse’s halter on, and the drug scum who were tranporting drug via horse’s rectums, killed the wrong horse. Words cannot express what should have happened to THEM.
Captain Mark Philips spoke to me in passing. I was standing at the warm up arena. At the same event Lucinda Prior-Palmer (Green) almost kicked me in the head as she climbed over the fence at the warm up arena. We both laughed. At the sink hole she was the first one to take the tough line at a gallop laughing the whole time; the prior riders trotted the easy line through. We moved on-nothing to see there.
Not sure if it was the same show, but I witnessed the “4th level” test at Bucks County. Afterwards heard the judge comment that he wasn’t sure what test that was supposed to be.
Axel Steiner blessed me out in front of at least 50 people for bringing him coffee he didn’t think was hot enough. Hilda Gurney apologized for him. Crass and class.
I don’t suppose “you’re welcome to go get your own “ would have been an appropriate reply
Well … I wasn’t going to say anything, but … in 1985 once I got to ride Bull Market in a lesson with Sandy Howard. So clearly I am an Olympian.
