They didn’t. The recommended an intensive outpatient therapy program.
This is not what I remember at all.
My only problem with that is moving to a different facility IS (IMO) working the levels. I definitely believe he hasn’t been moved because of lack of space. Our mental health system is woefully understaffed and underfunded.
ETA: removed my incorrect statement.
The medical professionals working with him recommended intense outpatient treatment. A “committee” of others disagreed. The judge followed the latter’s recommendation, and in my opinion he did so as to CYA.
Edited: typos.
Ah, I misunderstood that. Thank you for correcting me.
I misunderstood, thank you for correcting me.
A thought (and I am working on this myself!), but since Mod1 has had to step in twice today… if you think someone is being inappropriate, maybe just flag the post and use force of will or the ignore function to move along, rather than replying. Despite someone yesterday mischaracterizing my interaction with a highly aggressive and inappropriate and now-banned poster, I eventually did just that and it helped my mental health greatly… and they eventually sealed their own fate. Just a suggestion… one I occasionally have to remind myself to follow.
It is going to be a long week of waiting…
To be clear, Michael did not expect to be released free and clear. He knows and wants full mental health assistance to overcome the past 3+ years, work on coping mechanisms for his older problems, and regain his confidence. He is anxious to resume his life, as any of us would be, and never wants to be a victim of a predator again. That said, he and his loved ones want quality treatment to fulfill his mental health goals.
Once he is home the Kanareks will never get anywhere near him again. NEVER.
Another thought, that I have done many times (including recently) myself… If you feel the subject matter is inflaming in you an emotional response, or that people are disagreeing with you, or you feel ganged up on, or are otherwise frustrated… maybe just walk away. Come back later (or don’t).
And then they can take that 31+ year career in law with commendations for Valor and where I had to be versed in criminal law, civil practice, landlord/tenant, family law, domestic relations law etc and reduce it to vacuuming under lawyers desks.
I would not for a minute consider sharing any other personal information so a gang of ick can better target me.
I thought the law stated (and I could be wrong) that the person who made the recommendation had to be someone who actually examined the patient and that had to be within a certain timeframe of the hearing. I don’t believe anyone from the committee examined him. I also think the law says the least restrictive option must be used.
Now, THAT is above my pay grade. LOL. But, as I understand it, the judge can hear from whatever professionals present opinions and rule from there. I don’t think it has to be the “least punitive”, and I don’t think mental health professionals would categorize inpatient treatment as punitive. If my memory serves, one of Barisone’s own experts said he thought the outpatient recommendation (8 hours per day of intense treatment and therapy???) was not feasible in an outpatient setting. I may be wrong.
I agree, I also thought Dr. Simring said that Greystone would not be the best option either. Mental Health care is very lacking in this country. That is one thing this case has revealed.
I almost wonder if that wasn’t a misstatement!!
These types of programs do exist. But they aren’t cheap and they might be limited in accessibility.
This may have been answered somewhere, buried in a few zillion posts, but I’m asking anyway.
In discovery, how can it be proven that all requested information has actually been provided, without deletion of incriminating portions? Phone records, text messages, emails, recordings, etc.?
Not to mention, as I mentioned previously… they would be extremely intense. When I was in college, I had a hard time managing my therapy and treatment schedule, which was maybe 8 hours a week… it was overwhelming emotionally.
This is sadly VERY true! From what I have read, Greystone seems to be awful, but one of the best of the public options in NJ, if not the best.
