Mclain Ward: True horsemanship

This is pretty old but I was just thinking about it especially after that shall not be named thread and how great he was at the Olympics. If anyone saw that Animal Planet showing in Aachen a couple of weeks ago before the Olympics then you probablly saw them interview him. I just wanted to say how amazing he is. In his interview he never said “I won this…” and listed his amazing riding acomplishment he always said “SHE won this and SHE did this FOR me.” He was so humble and praised his horse for SO much and he is always giving her all the credit for what they have won together. He always says he would never be where he is without her. That is true horsemanship. Especially when he had to deal with all of what his father did and how he will always be looked as exceptionally hard because of that. He is truley an amazing rider and horse person and I think right now he deserves some special reconization for it.

Also, I’m not saying anything that people shouldn’t say that they won things he’s just amazing.

Can’t wait to watch him on Thursday! It’s on NBC now, yippee! From the one ride on Sunday, Sapphire sure looked like a relaxed and happy horse.

I totally agree. I love watching his rides and am excited to see two more!!

forget ward, how about simpson

he rode for frank jayne at northwestern stables in chicago. infamous jayne brothers: silas, george and frank. Barney Ward is St Francis of Assisi of horses compared to the jaynes. they burned down barns of horses for insurance, electrocuted horses for insurance, burned, cut, and brutalized horses to win. and Will Simpson was right there with them. I saw it with my own eyes. I was too young and stupid to know what to do. didnt realize how torturous and barberic these men were. and will simpson was involved in all of it. when i saw he was representing the USA at the olympics it made me sick to my stomach. watch his rides, he is the only rider for USA that shows NO appreciation for the horse after he rides. no pat on the neck, nothing. He is a vile.

This was so unecessary. I have no idea if this is true or not but I have seen him pat his horse. This was a post to show how much of an amazing rider and horseman Mclain Ward NOT to bash anyone on our Olympic team that won our country the gold. This was extremly out of line.

Will the mods, or better yet YOU erase your post then I will delete my quote or if you mods do it will you erase my quote. I really wanted this to be a PRAISE to Mclain Ward and not be ruined by a rumor…

bunratty’s not erasing, are you kidding? It’s her/his one and only post, s(he) registered just to make that post.

If that is true then who gives a rats ass if he won the country a gold!

I agree with that I didn’t by any means mean that he should be excused if this is true, I think if it’s true he should go to jail! But this is not the thread to do it on. I want to praise MCLAIN for doing such an amazing job and being such a great horse person. There is nothing about Will Simpson therefor he really should not have been brought up! I really don’t want this to turn into a bash fest! Again, it’s for the good Mclain has done, not the bad Will Simpson might have done.

Saphire is a fabulous horse and Mclain is a great great rider!! They’re gonna give Eric & Hickstead a run for their money on Thursday… but this time Canada’s gonna get it!! ;)

Actually, he did pat his horse on the neck.

Stop it right now.
These are the Olympics. I can be just as cynical as the next person. I know about rampant use of Dex, BNT sleeping with working students young enough to be their daughters, double commissions etc… the whole sordid side of our sport.
But (and this is a big but) these are the Olympics. This is the one competition that we have all watched since we were kids. I still remember watching in 1984 and believing that some day I could get there. If you ask a young rider what their highest aspirations are it is the Olympics not WEG or World cup.
The Olympics are about the love of sport and competing for your country. It is special.
So can it until next week. Discuss it on Horseshowspy. Spew your filth else where. Leave it out of the Olympics. Because this is the one time we can forget all the bad and only believe the good.

Mclain rode brillantly
Cedric is amazing, and Laura certainly knows it
Beezie and Authentic are the real deal
Will was fabulous on a super talented horse. And I have cliniced with him and have friends who have ridden with him. What he supposably did back in your youth holds no bearing on the man he is today.

And huge Kudos to Ian Miller he really deserves his silver Medal!

Oh for crying out loud, are you really that pathetic that you have to start your first post bashing someone by totally changing the topic at hand? you’re embarrassing no one except yourself, get a life already.

Go Mclain!

I’m not going to get into a argument with you but you might want to mind your words
about Will Simpson – Will loves his horses and who are you to say otherwise.
And I doubt El Campeon would appreciate these comments either — you are making reckless
accusations against a Gold medal winner.

Big congratulations to McLain and the other team members – well done! I was thinking yesterday about all that McLain has gone through, all the obstacles he had to face as a very young man, and how well-deserved his win is for him and his wonder mare.

[edit]

Anyway, I agree with the poster who implored people to leave their nastiness and cynicism at the door. Who are these people that write such things, anyway? They sound like a bunch of disgruntled ex-employees or jealous and bitter do-nothings. Is it possible, for just once, to be generous of heart and truly happy for other people when success finds them?

Sundown - don’t worry about the trolls. School will start soon and they’ll go away; or their probation will be revoked.

Congratulations to McLain Ward. Wear the gold proudly, you and your horse earned it.

Point is these 4 people on fabulous horses bested the entire world. Let us focus on that and congratulate them for it!
[edit]

great rider but hardly a horseman…check out how many times he’s gotten in trouble with the FEI…

How are they reckless if she was there?

Let’s talk about the fact that tall of us arm chair quarterbacks sure as hell can’t do what Will or McClain just did…reputations or not. And, before you point fingers, read the back of the USEF magazine with all the set downs…I don’t see Will or McClain!

selective memory is a wonderful thing!

Not everyone would agree that a rider who ever thought it was a good idea to put shards in his horse’s boots so the horse would experience pain if it hit a pole qualifies as a paragon of true horsemanship.

Flame away. If you start a gushy thread about someone like this, you can’t expect everyone to drink your koolaid.
