MDC stirrups, anyone?

I had a traditional, GM approved stainless steel fillis stirrup break this morning, thankfully while I was just trotting over a small log at home. So I’m in the market for new stirrups. I definitely don’t want flexible/ jointed, and I’m not sure about the composite plastic. I’m leaning toward these: https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/mdc-hunter-classic-stirrup-10325 and wondered if anyone else had them?

I have the Sport Classics (the eye where the stirrup leather goes through is adjustable) and love them. Not sure GM would quite approve, but they help not to put too much stress on the knee I hyperextended some years ago. The wide tread is way more comfortable than the typical tread on fillis irons.

want mine? Seriously, PM me if you want them.

I am married to the Sprenger Bow Balance http://www.adamshorsesupplies.com/Assets/ProductImages/2570052a.jpg

and our marriage is exclusive.

oops! The ones I have are the flexible ones. OP, I think you want the non-flexible.

I have them and love them! I find the wider footbed really helps me land in my stirrups after drops etc.

While you’ve decided against, I love my composite ones and they are cheap

My next splurge may be these in purple https://twitter.com/ivhorse/status/194705787640225792

I love mine! They made a huge difference in how my knees and hips felt when riding as well as making it much easier to get my stirrups back if I were to lose one. Just a week or so ago I was jumping a course, had a really bad jump out of a double and had one stirrup back in time for a jump 5 strides away and the other one soon after and neither leather was twisted!

scubed -

I have them in pink (tell me you’re surprised…) - and I love them (I had the cheap composite ones before…loved those too)! I loved them so much that I bought a conservative pair for my dressage saddle. I am about to be in posession of a second pair of pink ones if you want to borrow a pair to try them before you commit

Just an FYI - if you want real purple, order the violet ones - the ones marked “purple” are actually hot pink.

I saw your saddle and the pink stirrups at Rolex! They look great. Thanks for the tip on purple versus violet.

I REALLY want to get a pair of these and see if they are the miracle cure for knee pain. I just bought some wide track composites and while I like the feel of the lighter stirrup, I can’t say they are super helpful to the knees yet (jury is still out).

A student has the Sprengers. I HATE them - for me. My ankles are always killing me when I have to hop on the horse for her.

My legs/ankles are permanently molded into “traditional” stirrup shape!

I have the newish S MDC irons. Mine are flexible, but they come in non-flexible. I like them quite a bit. I had ones with a swivel at the top and did not like them. I tried a friend’s S ones before I bought some for myself. I think B of B has a MDC trial program, as does MDC himself. You can even contact him via his website with questions.

I have these. LOVE them. They’ve been helping heal up my knees that developed tendonitis above both kneecaps

I have a pair of the super sport (they have the swivel and a “safety stirrup” type flexibility). I really like the wide/grippy tread (tho you do sacrifice some shock absorption with a metal footbed). Mine were cheap/used and I have no complaints but they didn’t change my life in a $200 way either.

Winding Down,

I cannot get my PM function to work on COTH. I am Lowelle Messner on Facebook. If those MDC’s have not found a home, would you message me on Facebook? (If you are on it?)

I have tried the composites and they do not work for my knees. I am bone on bone and need to have both knees replaced. The flexible MDC’s are the only stirrups in which I can ride, without knee pain.

I have a pair of the MDC’s that are not flexible. They are on loan to a friend, who is trying them for her ankle, which was shattered in a riding accident.

tried the MDCs, my knees were so sore after that I couldn’t even walk, and I don’t ever have any knee issues. So they weren’t for me :frowning:

Sometimes MDC will have stirrups at a discounted price, but you have to contact them and ask. Would be worth a shot if you want a pair, but don’t want to pay full price.
