Meadowbrook Stables, Chevy Chase Maryland

Anybody going to the November 8th black tie fundraiser/reunion? Sounds like a great trip down memory lane.

I’m thinking about it but I’m pretty far away, California. Also, I remember a lot of horses from my time there, 1966-1971 or 71, but I don’t think I’d remember any people!

I saw that and have mixed feelings about the “fundraiser” they’re having. While they have some very worthwhile programs there - the kids come from Jubilee House and Hideaway Horse Center? So apparently this trip down memory lane is to help fund maintenance and facility improvements. Did they have to install the lovely city park type lighting? Yes, it looks beautiful but was that the best use of money? What is the point of the fountain? Again, looks beautiful but was that the best use of funds? Their current lesson program run from $80-$90 per lesson depending on what you sign up for vs $45 - $80 (private) at the Potomac Horse Center. About 10 years ago, I remember seeing their “Gift wish list” which included top brand show bridles, top brand stable blankets and turn-outs - so what does my donating a $300 bridle do for the nonprofit programs they run there other than give Rocky a nice bridle to show in at Culpeper? Again, that was 10 or so years ago and hit all the bit A shows. Don’t know if that is still part of their program but it turned me off. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer

Sorry to sound/be such a Debbie Downer.

Gottagrey: My apologies. I don’t know how to respond to your post. I haven’t been at Meadowbrook since I was a child/teen in the 60’s-70’s. I admit, I am unaware what the charitable contributions specifically fund. I am hoping to learn more at the event.

I rode at the Potomac Horse Center a bit later in the 70’s and prices were certainly different. One was a riding center way out towards Gaithersburg while the other was just outside of Washington, DC.

I am going because I met a life-long friend on horseback at Meadowbrook. Her elderly mother will be attending as well so I will be catching up with both of them. I don’t remember anybody else really but I sure remember the horses. People have sent in pictures for the event which will be great fun to see.

I am not interested in their pricing plan nor any other political agenda. I am happy to donate money to any organization that supports kids (especially disadvantaged kids) learning about horses. I am going to visit with my friend and her mother at an event that highlights a place that was very important to me at that time in my life.

Deacon’s Mom - that’s great and I’m sure it will be a fabulous event and you’ll have a great time. There is a long wonderful history of Meadowbrook and many long time friendships were formed riding there, including some of my own. I rode there in the 80’s and continue to show there at WBTA and the other shows (UPCO, Bit N Spur) when they had them there. I suppose I’m soured by one of their former managers and I should’ve reminded myself of the “former” status of that individual.
