Meadowsweet for horses??

Has/does anyone use this? I had never heard of it. My mare was having a particularly rough heat cycle and a fellow boarder suggested it might help.

I don’t know anything about it.

???

Meadowsweet is a great herb. It is usually used for arthritis and urinary tract infections in horses and usually as a part of a blend. If your new to herbs I would suggest a pre-made blend. If your mare seems to be having a rough heat cycle the first herb I would reach for would be raspberry leaf, not meadowsweet. There are a number of blends to help a mare who is having issues cycling like Moody Mare. Sometimes rose hips, kelp, and fish oil can all be added to the red raspberry leaf to assist stabilize hormonal issues. Let us know what you decide on and how it goes!

Meadowsweet is typically used in GI and urinary disorders and for its anti-inflammatory properties.
As george suggests, red raspberry is more of a specific for reproductive issues.

@george & @Ghazzu thank you for your response!
