Medical ID Bracelets vs. Armbands

I wear a Road ID when I ride, but it just has basic contact info for spouse and son. I have some medical history and a couple of regular medications, but I don’t have them on the Road ID. I don’t think the history or medications would be especially relevant in a situation where I am unable to speak for myself. I just add an armband with more complete info when riding in Pony Club lessons and would also wear the armband in the unlikely scenario of riding in an event or horse trial.

I included my name, year of birth, two emergency contacts, my concussion, migraine meds and that I have no med allergies. Everything fit on the info plate with abbreviations. For my concussion I used the abbreviation of MTBI (mild traumatic brain injury) and NKA (no known allergies).

My daughter has the slim RoadID and wears it everyday. Pony Club requires specific language and it is acceptable for horse trials also. Her’s is set up this way:
Name DOB
Fathers name and contact
Mother’s name and contact
No Med HX NKA
No current Medications

A lot can fit on the slim

I started using the app when I started solo trail riding. It’s a big step for me and I feel better knowing that someone gets an alert if my mare saw a tiger and I’m laying on the trail somewhere. My helpful advice is to set the alert off on purpose once so everyone knows what it’s like. The alarm is deafening which is good to bring people to you, not so good if you’re stopped for a snack and it goes off when you are on your horse.

I was wearing a road id long LONG before they became an option for competition. I also run and cycle, so I found out about them that way, and started wearing them for riding around 2012. It’s on for every ride. Now I just don’t have to remember to grab the armband. I love it.

I also have a Road ID and my favorite thing is that I can put it on before I leave for the show and then just wear it all weekend- no more forgetting my armband on the way to XC or SJ!

Mine just shipped! Woohoo! Hoping to have it before my derby on Sunday. It just makes so much more sense, because you can wear it in ALL the rings, not just XC. I ended up ordering the RoadID Sport. Fit all my info on it (since I don’t have allergies or accidents to have to list).

Here’s another $5 off link: https://RoadID.com/invite/59889-TAF8JRB5PH7 -Kelly

Sidenote: The company seems really awesome, and shipped very quick! And I loved that I could create my own badge! I added my horse’s name. Making it not just riding necessity, but a keepsake as well.

Thanks for posting this thread! I thought that internet access was required for the bracelets to be legal, but since all of my info will fit on the plate, I’m free of those awful armbands! YAHOO!

I had a good experience with them as well - when I received mine, the machine must have had a glitch or something and one of the letters was obscured in my name. I emailed them about it and they sent me a new plate right away.

Bumping this up since it’s SO time to dump my armband (always hated them - they never stay up) and wondering if anyone has any new recommendations. Thanks!

road ID that fits on your fitness tracker works for me

LOVE my Road ID!

I think all but the thinnest wrists could probably fit at least 3 plates. 5 lines per plate and 25 characters per line for the thin one I have. And I wear mine 24/7, including in the shower.

I have a RoadID and wear it all the time now - no fading or scratches after a year and I don’t take it off for anything but dress-up social occasions. I figure that I’m going to fall off, it’s probably just as likely to happen when I’m trail riding alone as it is during an event. It makes me feel marginally safer, anyhow

Thanks all! I resisted initially because I don’t want all of my medical info online (and there isn’t even much to tell!) but sounds like it’s simple to do without it. And be gone with you, armband! hahaha

I just got my Road ID a week or two ago. I have the slim version, rose gold, and I have the online subscription because I’ve had a number of surgeries and pertinent info that any first responders should know about. It’s surprisingly easy to adjust and get on/off. I do feel like the color of the rose gold is a bit uneven, but over all, I really, really like it. I wear it every day except to sleep/shower.

How many years post concussion is it pertinent to include that on the bracelet? I have a Road ID slim and wear it almost 24/7 since I do a lot of riding and hiking alone.

Have my name, year of birth, city and state, emergency contact then the last line is for no known allergies, my thyroid condition and blood type. I’ve had 2 or 3 concussions but the last one was 7 years ago so I didn’t even think to include it

Still wearing my Road Id. Comfy, easy to wear, if I am found belly up someone can call my husband and my barn and know what drug not to give me. App comes with an option to change your lock screen on your phone. Mine now has 2 contact numbers and a drug allergy on it.

I’m not sure I know anyone who uses RoadID. And events in my area is not utilizing it to my knowledge. I just do the wrist band with all my info and that’s it.

Cindy, most of the people I know who use road Id just use it as a bracelet as well… same thing, although the app (not the thing where you store med info online, just an app on your phone) does have handy trackers for riding alone that can alert a contact if you are immobile for more than 5 minutes, etc, and put emergency contact info on the lock screen of your phone.
