One of the bloggers on Eventing Nation is going hunting over in Ireland. The first blog is pretty good. And I do love that first pic too!

I will be following this report back! Be still my memories of glorious fun …
I remember when this story first came out; be sure to note the fingers taped together dragging on that cigarette.
I read this article this morning! I can’t wait to see part II.
Sorry for the double post! Part II was just posted.

Martha is a hoot. I had a great time out with her that day with the Meath in 2013.
Can’t wait to read about the hunt!

I’m following along too. What fun!
Tally Ho!
Sounds like a blast!

Lucky to have discovered this thread. What a great tale through which to live vicariously.
Hunting is, frankly, the one thing I’ve always wished/thought/expected I’d get to do one day in my life. Grew up in the era of built-in outside courses at the barn and at the handful of shows attended.
Alternatively, while I was getting married late-having son-living a confined life overseas, my best friend was picking up more and more lessons-kept riding-got her daughter through Medal/Maclay-opened boarding/lesson facility-and became a member of her hunt. Although we’re a bit older, she finally got me to follow with her in 3rd field last year, and we were hoping to get to return to advance one day. But we’ve both had health/real-life issues, my health a bit more consuming for now, and the goal, as I write this, feels far away.
This thread has the thought awakened. And what a hoot to find the first response to the last entry signed by “Hannah Wilson”. Same name as my late ancient godmother, who was friends growing up in the early 20th C with a local sportsman with horses of national/international renown. Seeing them pass by me while he drove his four-in-hand snatched me into horse obsession. I still have the outside latch to her barn in a box somewhere…
PS And what a hoot - love Lady Martha’s surname - how fitting!
These blog entries just get better and better.
I particularly loved that Martha Sitwell was brave enough to wear old style breeches–or is it britches? Maybe she’ll be able to bring them back.
Martha sounds wonderful, but I find Leslie self congratulatory and on top of that a bit hard to swallow - especially the last part about everyday bravery - given her recent past. Just that her defense sounded so incredible to me (though obviously it served its purpose in court).
Just so I’m not being mysterious:

I’m sure many will take issue with my criticism, but so be it. I just can’t enjoy her blithely written adventures so much.
Is this the same Leslie Wylie who wrote these blogs? Seems to fit.

If so I have to admit it dulled my pleasure in reading her blithely written madcap adventures. Very sad.

THats horrible. I don’t know if it is the same Leslie Wylie or not but I would lean towards not . Only because unless she ended up not getting jail time since pretty sure she ha been travelling the world reporting on Olympics/4* events etc for the last few years since she’s editor for Horse nation and EN.

The article did say 3 years sentence all suspended, and 3 years probation with no supervision, so the outcome was not very harsh for the Leslie Wylie in the article, and doesn’t seem to preclude her being the same as the author here. (And the Leslie causing the fatal accident was to have someone with her for medical appointments.)
Honestly, it was the nature of the defense that sounded so incredible to me – you’re out of state at a horse show and decide you just have to get Botox right then (language of the article indicated it was an elective choice, no mention of needing migraine relief or similar, and no mention that was her defense or justification for getting elective treatment, which I would think would be key to mention), and after the treatment, you pass out in the car from thinking about the needle (the experience of which is already over). I didn’t find that at all convincing even though clearly the court did. If the needle causing faint story isn’t a smokescreen, then it was fatally poor judgment to drive after an elective needle-involving procedure.
But this is straying OT. I just wanted to find out what else Leslie Wylie of this blog had written outside of EN, and this story was one of the first hits on Google and I was just kind of gobsmacked because I had built up this image of her from the blogs.
Botox is often a treatment for severe migraines…and it IS treated as elective. There was a mention of that in the article and given the nature of the sentencing…I would highly suspect that was he reasoning.
It sounds like a horrible and tragic accident…that happened unintentionally. Especially to independent people. I know that I’ve driven my self to the hospital…alone…in severe pain. I could absolutely see how this could happen to someone.

A member of our hunt wears those old style breeches (or whatever they are called) and pulls them off well. She’s always making a statement. Something I wish I was brave enough to do

I wear them frequently as well. I <3 them. So comfy!

Do they not chafe? Given the sort of damage a wrong fold in my jeans can do under half-chaps, I assumed that britches like those would be murder on your inner thigh!
