Mega Tek Rebuiler?

Hi guys,
I just got some Mega Tek Rebuilder for my mare, she is a paint and has a short fluffy little forelock I really want to try and get to grow at least a tiny bit and look softer and less scruffy. I thought it was a nice leave in product, something I can rub into her forelock lightly and just let it go, and also her frogs which are shedding and a little rough right now. But I realized the bottle says rise out after 5 minutes OR can be left on. How do you guys use it? I’m now a little nervous to leave it in, does anyone else leave it in and just use it once or twice a week? That was my plan. Its winter in Iowa so obviously can’t be washing her mane and tail right now.

Side note…has anyone ever tried it on THEIR hair? It has amazing reviews for human heads haha.

I typically rinse but have left it in the mane before. I apply very sparingly if so.

I use it as a leave in conditioner.

it helps to a point, though if the genetics aren’t there, I have found some horses just don’t grow the forelock as well. I like a really good biotin/omega 3 fatty acid supplement and general feeding program as the basis to grow mane and tail.

I use a little and leave it on. My friend’s mom used it on her head to help her hair regrow after chemo. She swore by it.

This…genetics play a huge part in how much forelock a horse will have. I had a mare with no forelock at all. Just a little nub. Her son has only slightly more than a nub…just enough to stick straight up. Her daughter has a normal forelock.

Nothing will make them grow if the genetics aren’t there in the first place.

FWIW I wouldn’t leave it in on a sensitive skinned horse. Mine gets irritated skin from it (e.g. on the dock of her tail) if I rinse but not carefully enough, let alone using it as a leave-in. And honestly I don’t think it’s any better than any other conditioner when carefully rinsed (as others have said, mane/forelock/tail is largely genetic anyway).

Thanks guys, I’ll just try it each way when I can and see what happens. I know it’s her genetics but I hope to get it a little less puffy, and maybe shinier? I don’t know ha ha but I do know I shouldn’t expect major growth, sadly!

Fantastic stuff. I used to get it when I got it a discount working at pet supply store.

I always used it as leave in conditioner, but always try a small amount first for sensitivities.

My guy has very fine, baby hair for a mane! Grows it quickly, just snaps easily. Helped a lot. Stopped using it only because it’s expensive.
