Melvin Poe has Gone Away

RIP Melvin Poe.

A legend and an inspiration. RIP.

One of the greats.
Surprised there are not more responses; I’m not even a Foxhunter, but this man is a legend. Hunt hard, Mr. Poe.

Thanks to Hunters Rest I had the opportunity to meet him and see his hounds and his kennels. With every story he told he brought hunting to life in a way no one else could.

I am so sorry to hear this. He was a fox hunting legend. RIP Mr. Poe.

There are some lovely tributes to Melvin on Facebook. He was a kind and generous man and his loss signals the end of an era in hunting.

RIP. Do great huntsmen go to the great thicket in the sky? Or the long hedgerow? Not trying to be irreverent, but the thought of all those years hunting offers so many vivid images and phrases. He leaves quite a legacy!

When they die, all Foxhunters will proceed directly to Hell.
Because they have already experienced Heaven on Earth.

RIP Melvin Poe.

I met him not to long ago when I went Fox Hunting in VA. It was my first time hunting and I recall him being a very kind and generous man, particularly to newcomers to the sport. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy.

I treasure the times I got to spend with him. I learned more from him in those conversations than I can relate. And he always answered questions with the utmost patience and kindness.
