Memberships for dressage competition if you event?

I am a useventing and local d/ct org member, but I have a horse who is actually pretty good at dressage so I thought I might go to some USDF shows. I seem to recall way back in the dark ages when I did dressage before, that my eventing or GMO membership was good for competing at USDF shows up to a certain level. Is it still? Or am I better off just joining because of extra fees ? How about USEF? And if I have to rejoin USEF, how many hours should i set aside for the “safe sport training”?

No you need USDF membership (can be through local GMO), unless you only do the Opportunity classes which don’t require it.

So I don’t need USEF? And my GMO membership is good for USDF?

You can use your USDF group membership but won’t be able to compete at GAIGs/Regionals or for year end awards without a participating membership. You will need a USEF membership for rider/owner or to pay the non member fee. And the horse will need at least a horse ID number through USDF or a lifetime registration if you want to qualify for regionals etc.

Sorry that was not very clear! You need:

USDF for horse
USDF for rider and owner (can be through GMO, just know you may not be able to qualify for certain year end awards or championships)
USEF for rider and owner

Opportunity classes don’t require any memberships for horse or rider.
