Mendelssohn Retired to Coolmore

I’ve always thought he was a lovely horse. His fee is 35k for 2019. https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-rac…olmore-america

By Scat Daddy and half to Into Mischief and Beholder, he should have a fair amount of interest, do you (LaurieB, Gumtree et al) think so? https://www.pedigreequery.com/mendelssohn11

I saw this and not surprised as his last few races he hasn’t been as impressive as his earlier races.

I thought the fee sounded reasonable based on his track performance, pedigree and “relatives”.

I’d agree, would be interested in thoughts LaurieB, Gumtree et al

I would imagine that his book is at least halfway full already. With his connections, I’d expect him to breed 200+ mares in 2019.

not surprised. his 2018 races were beyond lackluster. I think part of that has to do with Coolmore/O’Brien’s science experiment which involved flying him halfway across the globe every month only a handful of days before he was scheduled to run. Every. Single. Time. Mendelssohn is known to be a bit of a handful and stud-y which he often showcased while training or back at the barn. How they expected him to settle and focus with virtually no settle-time is beyond me but what do I know

If they really wanted him to succeed on dirt and have a tremendous career with it, they should’ve kept him in the states where he could travel less, train on dirt everyday with trainers who race on dirt everyday. Either do that or keep him on turf where he would’ve been quite happy

That aside, Mendelssohn has an incredible pedigree and he is a lovely built horse. Beholder was always one of my favorites. I think he will be received well but I do think 35k is a bit much for what he has accomplished. I’d go patronize Hopportunity before I patronized Mendelssohn. But I would patronize Mendelssohn over Justify any day of the week.

Totally agree. If he was going to race in the US, train him in the US. Race in Europe, train there. I wonder if they would have managed him better had not Scat Daddy died, and Into Mischief developed into such a hot sire.
