I had my horse on insulin wise for 6 months on recommendation of my vet. He does not always eat powder so I was thinking of switching to metabarol. I was curious because insulin wise recommends giving 750mg of resveratrol a day (1scoop) and metabarol recommends 4 scoops for 900lb and up which is 4,000mg. Anyone used one versus the other? Also that means metabarol is $$.
Why don’t you do something really radical like dampen the horse’s feed so the powder sticks to it, or dampen a handful of hay and mix the powder in.
I’ve used both Metabarol and Insulin Wise. I started w M and switched to I when it came out. My horse’s insulin went up on Insulinwise significantly so I went back to M. It now comes in pellets which he will eat.
Insulin Wise did nothing for my two mares.
They refused it in their feed in any form.
It had to be mixed with applesauce and syringed.
It was = Waste of $ and Time ! IMHO
Zu Zu, are you using something that is helping your horses? I’m always on the lookout for idea for IR and PPID. Oh… mine wouldn’t eat Insulin Wise either. I had to use a syringe. Thx.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a product that has helped my mares at all.
Dr Kellon from the ECIR group recommends Glycocemic Eq …not sure if it’s picky eater approved or how effective for that matter ??
My horse wouldn’t eat that, either, and it’s too much for a syringe for me. I do use a few Uckele products, but they are very small amounts of powder I can syringe down his throat w water. Dr. Kellon is the staff veterinarian for Uckele, which you probably already know.
