Metal Barn builder recommendations in Maryland

This will be our first barn, and our first time keeping our own horses (which are currently boarded), so any advice is much appreciated.

We’ve settled after moving and are finally ready to build a barn! I think I’ve decided on a metal barn, because of the lower maintenance vs wood. That being said, I’ve read a lot of nice things about MD Barnmaster by searching through these forums, but I see that they are located in California, and we are in Maryland. Does the distance affect the cost? Does anyone in the MD/VA/PA/DE area have a barn builder that they would recommend? We are not “do it yourself” type people when it comes to barns, so we would need someone to help with everything (site prep, permits, etc). Any advise is much appreciated!!!

If you’re going to go the long-distance builder route also check with FCP and Blue Horizons. We went with FCP 17 years ago. It’s solid steel and built like a Sherman Tank. It’s also darn pretty. Guaranteed to 75-mph. It’s withstood 95 mph. Only maintenance is washing it and occasionally replacing door hooks.

Where in MD? Recommendations can vary greatly depending on your proximity to Amish/Mennonite builders.

MD Barnmaster has a northern Virginia rep-- she’s based in Leesburg. You can find a link to her page from the MD Barnmaster main page. The parts actually come down from Canada, not out west. Though, I did find shipping was still fairly costly. Good luck!

not according to Barnmaster’s web site,

MD BARNMASTER FACTORY
1720 E. Locust Street
Ontario, California 91761

One of our neighbors as a MD barn, it was put up some twenty five years ago it shows little to no wear

There are some old MDBarnmasters around here that still look like new.

I thought they have building facilities in different areas of the country, one in FL, I think?

The Virginia MD Barnmaster Rep:

MD Barnmaster of the Atlantic States
1010 Murphy Drive
Great Falls, VA
22066

Regarding shipping— it was $4500 for a three stall shedrow with tack room and 8’ lean to off the front. Installation was $4000. All told about $30k.

Thanks all for your responses. Another question…local Amish builder vs large company like MD Barnmaster, FCP, etc. How do you choose which route to go? Does anyone know the pros and cons of each? I’m finding this all very daunting :frowning: I appreciate your thoughts!!!
