It’s off Brownsville/Lithia Springs Road - AKA Stout Parkway – just east of Hwy. 92
Someone on Horsecity.com mentioned it but I a) had no idea it was there; and b) know nothing else about it.
Thanks!

I have never heard of Stout Park. Could they be confusing it with Boundary Waters? It is located at Hwy 92 & 166 in Douglasville.
Boundary Waters Park. Has miles of multi use trails for horses & hikers 5000 Hwy 92/166 Douglasville GA 30315 (1 mile from were Hwy 92 meets Hwy 166) 770-489-2175 ext 5059
No, definitely no confusion. The person also rides at Boundary Waters.
If you click the link above in my OP, you’ll see the Google map that shows the outline of a huge park.
Here’s the story on it as she posted it:
The Stout Family left their farm as a facility for equestrian activities, and a bunch of money in trust to provide for trails and arenas.
For the last six years the neighbors who live around the park-which adjoins our former governor’s property have ridden on and maintained the trails (that the Park Service uses). Bush hogging, cutting brush etc. Cobb County just bought the adjoining property -a polo farm.
The property is located on Stout Parkway…from Hwy 92-go to Brownsville Rd. turn right on Burnt Hickory. Stout Parkway is about the third Rd to the left. The park is on the left-just past the dirt road.
Sooo, anyone feel adventurous? This Park is only 20 mins from where I board!
It would be at least 1.5 hours for me. IF we could get some more info on it and a number to call I’d be game. Always looking for new places to ride.
Have you been to Cochran Mill lately? I just called them, the trails are still open, but they have no maps and no idea how long they are. It has been YEARS since I rode there.
I’m new the Trailering Out Thing (just got my trailer in May) so haven’t been there, nor heard of it. Been to McIntosh Reserve tho! Loved that place

I called Cobb County Parks & Recreation, they are supposed to call me back with further information, per the website it is not open for daily public activities, only for scheduled events. Trails will be developed for equestrian use. It is 88 acres
Oh cool. Thanks for playing “Sherlock”
I just spoke with a really helpful lady at Cobb County Parks & Recreation. Despite the park not being open, people are riding there. It sounds as though they will not run you off. But the gates are locked and you can’t pull in to park. So I will not go that far to possibly not get in to ride.
If you like McIntosh (we have a year pass and ride there frequently) try Boundary Waters. It is pretty nice, several bridges to cross, so if your horse is not a seasoned trail horse be sure to have a solid lead horse with you.
We could hook up with you sometime at either park.
I got an email about this park recently, I will post it here when I get home. Choco I would love to meet you there anytime!
Pnalley- I ride at McIntosh and Boundary weekly. I am always looking for people to ride with anytime you want to go let me know! I also go to FDR and Talladega.
Oh cool.
Looks like Cobb is actually sitting up and taking notice of Equestrians. The new “planned” park is on Dallas Hwy in West Cobb (just past/before The Avenue Shopping Center). They took public comments for quite a while and I know a lot of riders wrote in to say “make it dual access…give it good parking, etc.”
spotnot
Do you ride at 1099 or Concord Church? If not they are similar to Talledaga.
We plan to do the Good Shepherd ride, possibly we will see you there. Or we can set up a time/date to meet at either McIntosh or Boundary Waters.
We are based in Pike County so FDR is close, although I’m not crazy about all the rocks.
Pnalley-
I have not heard of the other places. Where are they? Let me know next time you are up this way and I will meet you. If you do not come before the Good Sheperd ride lets plan on meeting up there.
Christina
My mare is a greenie at trails, would love to have someone to ride with weekend after this one. Spotnotfarm - you think we could ride together at McIntosh and Choco what about you? My mare (TWH mare in training for dressage) has not been on many trail rides but is not “stupid”, just needs miles. She hasn’t bucked, reared or run off, but does have a claustophobic tendancy if made to ride in the middle of a group (she gets faster and faster until she is at the front where she is content to amble on). She is 17.1 hands and the folks I have ridden with have shorter horses with shorter strides. I’d love to meet y’all at McIntosh - I am in LaGrange so would be about a hour haul for me.
You can pm me if interested.
Sidepasser- i do not think I can go next weekend. Chocomare and I are going to Sunkissed Acres. I could go the 5th. Would that work?
What is up at Sunkissed Acres?
Sidepasser, McIntosh is a great place for green horse. It has the best water crossing for teaching calm & cool crossings. I ride a short pony, but he can keep up with whatever comes his way:D. Sidpasser, since you are in LaGrange have you tried Pyne Road Park? It has a deep sand arena that will get a green horses attention prior to riding along the trail. Some of the trails go beside West Point Lake. It’s a decent place to ride that is really close to you.
1099 & Concord Church are different ends of the National Forest. We love riding there. There is one “swimming hole” that is a sandy entrance to the Ocmulgee River, the water gets deep enugh to actually swimm with your horses.
Sunkissed Acres is a horse rescue & retirement farm in Trion, GA. The owner/operator, Lori Rosser, has a long history with us COTHers. We’ve been able to support her 501c3 monetarily and with manual labor. In addition, she and a dog/cat rescue operate a non-profit thrift store in Summerville called Hoof-N-Woof, with all proceeds going to the animals.
She takes donations of everything, including horse equipment and supplies. So Christina (Spot) and I are cleaning out our respective “stuff” to take up to Lori’s to sell in the store and/or auction off in the upcoming SpecialHorses.org on-line auction.

If you’ve got stuff you wanna donate, maybe one of us can meet you somewhere to pick it up before the 29th.

Rode there a couple of years ago. Trails needed lots of work. Didn’t look as if they’d been kept up at all. No trail markers and grown up trails with lots of trees down.
 We had a hard time even finding the waterfall.
Maybe it’s better now…if anyone knows please let us know.

I rode at Cochran Mill this past Sunday. The trails are not kept up and can be a little treacherous in some places. However, I have a soft spot in my heart for Cochran Mill… I used to board at a place next door and I started my Arab under saddle out on those trails (well, we did have 3 rides in the round pen before hitting the trails). I used to ride Cochran Mill several times a week. Now, I try to get there a couple times a month (although I did go a couple years of not riding there at all).
I’m dating myself, but we used to ride there 15+ years ago. Do you still turn in off the paved road on a dirt road and go immediatly right up a steep hill (on right) to park? Then you ride off down the dirt road? Can you ride on the other side of the road too?

I believe that the trails across the road are for bikers and hikers only. I have taken my dogs hiking over there before but it has been a while.
It’s funny, my horses haven’t been boarded over there in 5 years but they still want to head through the pasture to go “home”.
