No, it’s absolutely not likely he called his old CO. If he was actually in an active duty role when 9/11 happened, he was enlisted. And very junior. Which is fine. But that means he would NOT have been calling the CO at 8:45 am that morning. That’s not how it works in the military. There is a chain of command. He was literally at the bottom of the chain.
I can speak to it from a Navy perspective. In a given command, the XO and the Master Chief would possibly have been calling the CO on that morning. @Fiesta01 spoke about it from an Army perspective in an earlier comment
I am not going to declare that I know for certain how it works with the Marine Corps… but it’s the military. Chain of command is a thing. And the most junior enlisted folks in a command all personally calling their CO anytime something happens? That’s not a thing. That’s not how things work.
Last thing… I still think the whole story is suspect. I think if he made it through bootcamp… he probably got processed out shortly afterwards while at a training command. He has long-standing behavioral problems that the military does not want in their active duty service members. People do get processed out when these sort of problems are identified. I suspect that was the case with RG. So let’s say he was no longer on active duty on 9/11 but he wanted to call an “old” CO anyway that morning… uhhhhh… they wouldn’t have taken a call from a disgraced guy who had been intentionally processed out of an active duty role.
NOT defending any of that group, but MAYBE (could be an excuse for the timing) he was in a different time zone. 8:45 CST is 9:45 EST, after both planes hit.
You are so right! There is always that nugget of truth in the Kanarek posts! Maybe he did call his CO at 8:45, but when he did he wasn’t on active duty and it wasn’t about the Trade Center attack. Maybe it was to go fishing or play tennis or drink a few beers.
Yeah… its just as likely that he didn’t call his CO at 8:45am on 9/11 since as others correctly pointed out - that was before the first plane even hit.
But lets for giggles assume that IM/JK isn’t lying through his teeth and that RG actually did reach out to someone in a position of power in the military that day…
SO: Hello?
RG: Hi SO, it’s me RG, your favorite recruit from boot camp
SO: who?
RG: oh, you might know me by my other name Jim E. Stark?
SO: No - who is this? I’m very busy
RG: Where do you need me?
SO: listen, I have no idea who you are or how you got this number but I can not deal with you right now. Just stay safe in your home and obey local laws. Do not call me again. Good bye.
*this is a fictional reenactment from the mind of BatCoach who clearly believes that RG did not call his SO on 9/11 *
The only plausible scenario in which Robert Guy Goodwin enlisted successfully was if he did so on the fly and quick-shipped to bootcamp, after a run-through at MEPS. In that scenario, he would have not been fully processed (background check completed and full-range drug-screening) until some weeks in. Also, he would have been subjected to random urine sampling - the military can and will test the whole run at 1:30 AM, if they feel like it and often do that - at any time, day or night. If he did get in and his background later came back as questionable because of the drug charges and other stuff we’ve already covered, they would have likely tossed him out, particularly after a proper urine screening or blood test for narcotics, which can take longer than the simple sample testing that can be done then and there, with test strips.
Or he could have been booted for behavior issues. I can’t picture RG liking the very strict, regimented procedures and absolute obedience and respect for authority required, particularly in Marine boot camp.
Whether RG was or wasn’t a US Marine has nothing to do with anything. But it seems to be a really big deal for the Kanareks to keep him pumped up on some imaginary pedestal. I wonder why?
I have zero doubt that the people who ran to the WTC that day would be interested to hear that they just needed to make a phone call to fix things and save people.
And all those rescue dogs who spent so much time searching the site could have just stayed home on the couch watching Lassie re-runs after their handlers called in.
Let’s get back to discussing the fact that some people are not answering subpoenas/refusing to hire their own lawyers. I am of the opinion it is a money or control issue. Specifically with JK.
It could be difficult to find lawyers willing to let you write stuff that they have to file on your behalf when you cannot afford/will not pay them.
The text messages discussion is also extremely interesting. I hope to see more of the text messages as this case moves along.
Discussing the civil trial appears to be what upsets IM and Lk!
Talking about Jim Stark is just a distraction.
Some of is are twitchy about falsified claims of 9/11 or military valor and when it’s used in an attempt to demean others I’m going to call it out every time.
It shows an intentional and continued modus operandi to use untruthful statements especially to insult and demean.
I asked the hubs about it who is a medically retired Marine. Interestingly enough, Marine Corps bases were on FPCON Delta status on 9/11. The bases were locked down and only essential personnel were allowed on base. In that situation, RG’s command would have contacted him to give orders, and it would have either been a Squad Leader or Platoon Sergeant considering RG was not a commissioned officer.
But then again, RG doesn’t know anything about guns, even though every Marine has to qualify as a rifleman and is the only branch to do so, so not sure how he’d help the war effort as a Marine is he didn’t even know how to safely operate a firearm.
