The chain restaurants in our area list calories, the small, private restaurants do not. When my husband saw the calorie count on some foods that he regularly ordered, he changed his dining habits (for the mot part). My husband and his sibs are very unaware of what healthy eating looks like, although of the 3, he is far more aware. I asked his cardiologist to send him to a nutrionist who could look at how he ate (because his wife tellng him that something is bad does not work) and say, “eat this instead of that”. Cardiologist informed me that since I do most of the cooking, his bad eating habits were on me. (I refrained from responding because, “F You!” did not seem to be an appropriate respone.) DH would go to a nutritionist if referred by his doctor and would actually be interested in what they had to say, but he is not going to read about it or think about it. He needs to hear it from someone other than me. Sigh…
We have a TO which has been here for years. Never went there either LOL
There is nothing better than seeing the “HOT” sign and indulging in a KK donut! Sad to say there are none near me but I am always on the lookout when traveling.
I grew up with the late, great Montgomery Donuts. DD donuts don’t compare. Duck donuts are very close to the “cake” texture of Montgomery Donuts.
Several years ago I tracked down the man who owns the Montgomery Donuts recipes. For 10K, they could be mine. I passed. I didn’t have 10K to spare AND he’s disreputable so I figured he’d take my money and fail to honor his side of the bargain. He has a history of doing exactly that.
Pity. Those donuts were really good. Driving past their main shop on Rt 28 where they were made for the affiliates was awesome.
All donuts in our world are compared to Montgomery Donuts. And so far none have surpassed those wonderful confections. Some have come close but our memories of Montgomery Donuts are strong
DD is far superior to KK.
KK just tastes like sugar and grease.
I said what I said.
I dislike Krispy Kreme donuts. When they first showed up south of Denver, my co-workers all went nuts over them, but I didn’t. I also don’t like Dunkin Donuts, nor their coffee. I do drink McDonald’s coffee on road trips, since we can get senior coffee for a cheap price. But we do ask how long it’s been sitting on the burner before we order it.
I went to Tim Horton’s once while in Canada, and didn’t like their coffee. But it might have been that particular location. Of course, I can’t remember where it was, and we drove a lot of the Trans Canada Highway that trip. We crossed from the US near Niagara Falls, and came back via Michigan. It was a great trip!

Ugh coffee and donuts. No.
I actually don’t drink coffee at all, so can’t really say anything about that.
There was a Tim Hortons near me but it didnt last long. One KK in the nearby casino - I do like the light warm glazed donut on occasion, but just once in a while. Plenty of DD around! Their donuts are meh! Most locals have a local bakery that makes good donuts.
Cant comment on the coffee as I am a tea drinker!
They were the BEST. I can still taste their old fashioneds(plain), krullers and glazed. All of them were delicious but those were my favorites. When my dad would take us to the East Gude Drive factory (not Rt 28, but off of it - oops) it was a very good day indeed.

Driving on Gude Drive first thing in the morning when they were making the donuts? Heaven!!!
I tried donuts at Reading Market when I lived in PA and now no other donuts compare. My mother, who does not like donuts, ate two.
Do you remember Second Hand Rose too?
Do you remember Second Hand Rose too?
Don’t recall that one. Will have to ask my partners in “Montgomery Donuts of crime” about it.
It was a big indoor flea market kind of place that also had regular vendors with their own floor space. You could find some amazing things there. A cross between flea market/consignment/thrift store.
It is hard to manage HS workers. We just close the shop rather than deal with it.
It certainly sounds like it gets very complicated very quickly.
I really really miss our Dixie Cream donuts. They had the best donut holes. Nothing compares. NOTHING not even KK although they are the closest. I think the secret was the machines hadn’t been cleaned for 70 years and that smoking was still allowed in the store. Lard and second hand smoke must have made the magic
Krispy Kremes are waaaaay too sweet for me. People were lined up in the rain for a few blocks when the first one opened around here - I still do not understand why.
My husband frequently travels in Canada, and says there is nothing like Tim Horton’s!
I’m a bad Canuck, I think their coffee is swill, but I love their fritters, especially blueberry and their dutchies. There are Timmies in NY state, though I’m not sure how far south they go.
