Michael Pollard in the Mongol Derby

I’m surprised no one has mentioned this, but Michael Pollard is currently competing in the Mongol Derby: https://equestrianists.com/mongolderby2025/rider/michael-pollard-mpo/

I have a friend competing and thought it was cool to see his name on the start list!

ETA: There is live tracking here: https://equestrianists.com/live/

Pretty darn cool!!!

I’m tracking someone I met at Kentucky (aka Defender aka Rolex), who owns a horse that competed there and events himself. I was quite bowled over when he mentioned (casually of course) that he was doing the Mongol Derby!

My first thought is always – BUT WHY ??? :open_mouth:

The fact that I’m a person who would ask that question probably explains why I can’t fathom the answer.

Well good luck to the ponies and all that ride them.

I know someone competing there also. It takes guts - it’s not for me. My friend just wants to finish. Michael is doing pretty well. As of this morning he is 12th.

Thanks for the reminder to watch this.

Hoping your friend does great.

I’ve been following this blog in case anybody else is interested.

I followed along a few years back when one of the woman from HorseNation trained and then rode in it. It is truly fascinating.

DH has commented he would like to try in the past. I should ask him if he’s still interested.

Currently he is in 4th place

This seems pretty on point for Michael. What an experience. I have always wanted to participate.

I would do it in a heartbeat if it weren’t so expensive. I helped a good friend train for it two years ago and he had the most amazing experience

They offer an academy which is only $6,000 which sounds like a much better option. Might make a fun vacation
