Micklem fit: is this okay?

I got a Micklem competition bridle for a really good price. It’s horse sized, and I have a 16 hand appendix with a somewhat refined head. Does this look like it would be an okay fit, at least manageable? He didn’t seem to mind it when riding. I might try to find longer bit straps so I can raise the noseband up, the way it is now I have to have the noseband low in order for the bit to not be pulling tight in his mouth because the bit straps are so short. If it’s just too big and not going to work, I’ll just keep using my old bridle. I’ve never used one of these before so not totally sure on how it’s supposed to fit.

I know the bit straps aren’t on correctly and the chin strap is loose, I fixed it before we rode. I was just trying to figure out how to fit it. And yes, he was completely dead asleep while I was poking at his face trying to figure this thing out

With many snaffle bits on the Micklem bridle the Micklem bit straps are WAY too short for me.

I got 2 flash straps, cut them down, used my hole punch to make holes, and now I can have the noseband up at a reasonable place AND not have multiple wrinkles at the corners of the horse’s mouth.

This creates three happy people, the horse I ride, my riding teacher and me.

Did you compare it to the pictures on the Micklem web site (http://www.williammicklem.com/multibridle-multibridle.html)?

It looks to me like the noseband is a little too low and perhaps a bit too long in the front (which is something you can’t do anything about because it’s not adjustable). This is how I ended up with a bridle made of parts of two different size Micklem bridles. I got horse and oversize to try, thinking that I would send back the one that didn’t fit. Neither fit properly, but using the oversize top half and regular horse size bottom half was just right.

I spent about a week debating whether or not I was actually going to do something so stupid as buying two bridles to make one before I decided that I was.

Honestly, I like it so much that I would probably be willing to do that haha! He was much happier with me putting this on than my old bridle, even with it being too big. Maybe I can find a cob sized black one for cheap…

I might try that to see if I can get it to work before looking for a smaller size.
