Middle tennesseans! Natchez Trace?

Hello all! Looking for any words of wisdom about trail riding on the Natchez. I’ve always just gone over to Percy Warner, but some friends and I want to try a new place. Are the parking areas/trails well marked? Anything I should know before going?

I haven’t been, but when I lived in that area a few friends went and said the trails had gotten hit really hard by the bad storms of the past few years…

I haven’t been in a while, but parts of the trail can be quite rocky. Might want to consider boots if your horse is barefoot. We always had a lot of fun out there. In the summer we would take our horses to go swim in the creek.

I haven’t ridden on The Trace since the bad storms came thru, a few years back.

I rode the trails right off the parkway. There was excellent trailer parking where we were.

The trails we were on were a mix of new trails and some of the old Native American trail. I had shoes on my horse and it was a good thing. I have one horse with hooves like a goat that I would have ridden barefoot but, as many hours as we rode, there’s a chance I might have sored him up.

I would call the Park administrators and them how the trails are, since the storms, a few years back.

And by the way, I sure didn’t see any wide open fields (like are on the front page of this link) where I rode. We were on narrow, winding old trails and climbed the steps before the steps were built:)

A little bit more of a drive but a beautiful place to spend a day riding is Milky Way Farm near Lynnville, TN. Trails are not marked but they’re easy to follow. PM me and I’ll share the contact info on a woman that rides there several times a week and knows the history and people of Milky Way and is fun to ride with.
