Mighty Magic - anyone bred to him?

So I’ve come across some more studs to possibly breed my Hungarian SH mare to. And one of them I really like is Mighty Magic. Love the Heraldik line and also the Spec. Bid line.
Has anyone had experience breeding to him? I see Superior has him on their list.

Yes, have a 4 yr old and a coming 3 yr old. 4 yr old is 16.2, competing unrecognized BN and has been on the top 5 at all his events, finishing on dressage score. Pluses, very brave, good mover, seems to have scope. Negatives- very heavy type , even being over 50% TB. Don’t think he’ll be an upper level horse with that. Have 1 more dose on the tank, would like to use it n a full to 3/4 TB.
Check semen lots, there was a report 2-3 years ago about exploding straws

Interesting…that’s what I thought about having all that TB blood, is that he’d breed lighter. Good to know!
Good to know about the straws too…guess the little squirmers just wanna get out so bad lol

He was used in Germany in the first year on heavier or normal mares as people thought he would refine. But he is no refiner in the sense of horses getting lighter. I have three doses in the tank to use as I really liked him and wanted to save future breeding as it was said at that time that he was supposed to be sold.

Anyone have more input on MM or updates on offspring?

I saw several young MM babies in Belgium this spring and really fell in love. He hadn’t really been on my radar before that but I was very impressed with what I saw across the board, both with type and temperament. I was able to bend the ear of a breeder there who has used him a lot to get his opinion of what mares cross best with him, but am always looking for more info. The foal would be a keeper for myself, for an eventer.

Also any input on the quality of his semen? The mare I’m using has not been bred with frozen before but I don’t forsee it being an issue as long as the quality is decent. I see several brokers stock him - any preferences on which to buy from?

I’ve used 2 doses, gotten 2 foals, one from an 11 yr maiden. Loved my 5 yr old, going novice, very brave, good jumper and a nice ammie horse

Wasn’t there a problem early on with an extender that didn’t work for him or something like that? You’d want to make sure that your semen was relatively new if I’m remembering this correctly.

We had the exploding straws, but I would still like to have a MM. We have a nice TB mare who I think will be a good match.
DD rode MM when was working for Andreas so he made her list.

Thanks for the input. Anyone have preferences on the best broker to buy semen from (or NOT to buy from)? I’m seeing several that offer it. PM if you’d rather.

Looks like Jens Richter of Global Equine Sires carries Mighty Magic, we’ve had excellent success with buying from him. Excellent customer service, and very honest and willing to discuss the semen/stallions he offers.

second Jens Richter

Global Equine Sires is excellent broker.

I’ve had my eye on Mighty Magic for a TB mare by Siphon. I’ve seen quite a few MMs for sale in Germany at considerable prices. Really nice looking foals and young competing horses. They all look the business - not too heavy, nice jump, nice movement. We’re hoping for a Heraldik type by Herald III from a Yarlands summersong mare, so I’m a huge fan of Heraldik’s. The other intriguing part of MM’s pedigree is Mytens, who does figure in a number of big name horses, including on the distaff side of WEG jumper winner Zenith (Rash R x Fuego de Prelet).

For the price and as long as you don’t get any exploding staws (no paper lables on straws), you could do a lot worse than Mighty Magic.

I’ll see if I can share some links to MM’s for sale in Germany.

I’ve always liked him…just haven’t had the right mare for him yet. I’d use him on the right full TB mare but the one I think will cross best with him really nicks well with Grafenstolz and now I really want one by Future Gravitas out of her (lost this years foal with that combination). But if I breed her again after I get my FG foal…MM is on her short list.

those of you familiar with MM… what type TB does he do best with?

One that is very good moving herself and I think on the refined side already. The mare I have in mind for him routinely scored 8s or 9s on her gaits from good judges at events and dressage shows.

There is a son of Spectacular Bid standing at Poplar Creek in Ohio (Cinci area) by a No Bend mare. I hear he is a very nice mover --never raced. He is listed as 17.1.
