Milkie's Desire?

Hello,

I realize Milkie’s Desire was caught up in an unfortunate situation out in Colorado years ago, in regard to the Vaughns…but does anyone know where he ended up? It seems he disappeared then - at least from what I can find.

Thanks, in advance, to anyone who might have any information.

Hi Barbara!
I don’t believe he is even alive anymore. I personally called King Hackley and told him what was up on the horse and he simply did not want him anymore. [edit] Very sad! He was in a feed lot in CO last I knew and was sick and not doing well…I believe he met his end in the feed lot. :no:

I know there is at least one daughter of his. She bred her to my guy this year '07. Don’t know if you were looking for him specifically or any offspring too…

RFF Kings Ransom is a son of Milkie’s Desire that is in California. I am not sure he stands to the public. I have a 2007 palomino tb filly by him.

I know that he WAS still alive when both Donja and her mother were arrested for the bank robbery and that is going back 2-ish years ago but what has happened to him since then, I dont think that anyone knows to be honest …

There were a few of us that were trying to purchase him. A stallion in his teens that was blind in one eye, that his owner wanted $40,000.00 for … :eek:

And he wouldnt entertain any offers on him - that was the price - and the other factor was that whoever bought him had to go and try and find him in the foothills of CO and then try and get him away from the Vaughn’s. And all of the horses - MD included - were moved and re-moved and moved again if there was any perceived or real threat to someone coming to get him, so short of hiring a posse to hunt him down, it was a really ridiculous situation in every way possible

I had the names and contact information for the brand inspector’s, the detective’s working on the case, the police involved but at the end of the day they were all more interested in charging the Vaughn’s for not only the bank robbery but also for the multitude of crimes they had commited previous to that, and the fate of the horses and MD seemed to take a back seat to all of that, very unfortunately

So - thats the scoop as far as I know any of it. If I get a chance, I’ll give the brand inspector a call and see if he can shed any light on it at all …

The OP wanted to know about Milkie and his fate, not his offspring and horses related to him…or that is what I got out of the original poster’s post. His last breeding report was in 2002, but that as when he was still with King.

I hope Donja is still in the can for what she did to that poor horse. Of course I blame King just as much for not stepping to the plate and getting his horse back and he could certainly afford it, but just did not care about the poor old guy!!! :mad:

Thanks so VERY much for the help, even if the story is quite frustrating. I just hate when horses disappear, especially such quality, magical horses. One of the first-ever white TBs, White Flight, disappeared through the Unadilla, NY, sales, perhaps 6 or 7 years ago. Ugh.

I see a website for Mr. Hackley, in Georgia (no phone number listed) but it appears to be old. And I found a Lexington, KY, phone number for a Mr. Hackley, so I guess I’ll try that first.

The list of MD’s registered offspring is very interesting as well. I absolutely loved Wajima, so how neat to see Gold Horizon be out of a Wajima mare. To think that he produced such gorgeous horses with such limited opportunity.

This is a very unfortunate story. I liked Milkie, he was a very sweet stallion. I worked for King very briefly in the mid 90s, when he had a huge breeding operation in Georgia. Milkie was one of the 7 stallions standing at the farm. King had 70+ broodmares and produced a lot of foals every year. He had many really, really nice horses.

As I understand it, almost all of the horses were sold off in a huge dispersal sale when the farm went under, most selling for almost nothing. I wish I would have had the money and facilities to buy several of his broodmares when they went up for sale.

tarragon are you referring to Milkie himself being one of the 7 stallions standing in the mid 90s or Milkie’s Desire?

If you are referring to Milike and not Milkie’s Desire then you are incorrect…Milke was put to sleep by his then owner, Herbert Burton in Jan 1990. My mare Queen Debonair and Canadian Kid were the last two foals born by Milkie in 1990. The mares were bred in AL in 1989 by Herbert Burton. I met Mr. Burton when I was given Queen Debonair by him to “carry on this palomino line.” Mr. Burton was in his 80s when he brought Queen Debonair to me in Virginia himself with his wife and she was in foal to my stallion Gold Card by AI so I would not miss a year in 1996. Mr Burton put Candian Kid through a sale in Jan. 1996 when we had a tremendous blizzard on the east coast and he was sold for about 1,000.00. He could not haul the stallion back in the storm and left him to head back home, never dreaming that he would go for so little…Terri Brown purchased him at the sale…King told her about him being there. King never ever had Milkie in his possession…Mr Herbert Burton purchased him from a guy named Joe in FL in the 80s.

My mare/Queen Debonair had one foal at King’s place in 1994, a chestnut filly by Milkie’s Desire that did not live very long after birth. Mr. Burton had to go back and show up at King’s farm to retrive Queen Debonair…King’s father had put his foot down and would not put up anymore money for horses and Queen Debonair was brought back to AL, to Mr. Burton’s farm. King purchased Milkie’s Desire from Mr. Burton and many others, but did not pay for Deb. King had many shakey deals including the Puchi stallion years ago.

Barabara D. I would search in CO…but from what I know he did die there. It would be wonderful to find him, but I just don’t think he is out there to be found.

I myself have been trying to find more info on Milkie’s Desire for the last 3 years b/c I actually own his full brother Paint Me Gold. Paint Me Gold is a 15.2hh Palomino Tb Gelding. I have owned him for 16 years now, he’s semi-retired, completely sound and still ridden 5-6 days a week at 23 years old. I competed him in 3-day eventing from 1994 at entry level all the way up to Intermediate in 2003. We also represented Ontario twice at the NAYRC (North American Young Riders Championships) in 2002 in Chicago, Illinois and 2003 in Bromont, Quebec where we ended up 13th both times. He wasn’t much of a dressage star but he tried his best and always did reasonably well. Jumping was his thing, he absolutely loved x-country. He was like a tiger, never refused or balked at a thing.
