Minding your own business or ????

Does anyone check out “rate my horse pro”? I’d take advantage a legit way to share my recent experience with someone that doesn’t seem gossipy like a BB can appear to be. It is $5 to sign up, which is fine, but I don’t want to waste my efforts if no one reads it.

So wait, are we still talking about JB or is there another asshat out there doing similar things?

I thought it was a general discussion about how to handle the few bad seeds in breeding…maybe I’m off base though…?

Its sad so many people feel that its OK to not pay their debts, and act like small business’ are their personal banks and finance companies. That is what credit cards are for.
We need a better system for warning people of deadbeat payers in this industry.

It appears to be someone different.

Having read what happened to you I feel ludicrously naive. It never occurred to me that someone would sell a dead horse. I have bought (and sold) without ever seeing more than a photo and it would have never in a million years occur to me to take up references on a seller (including rate my horse pro) - all I ever do is Google them in various ways.

I mean there’s buyer beware and there’s Buyer Be Paranoid! But I guess it’s better to be paranoid :frowning:

Unfortunately, there are others. Maybe not to the same degreee at this point, but they all start somewhere. I’ve had private messages that there are some others that post here but people are having the same issues that we are having by not wanting to cause more drama. But it doesn’t seem like the freeloaders should get a pass either! So ideas on how to deal with this are very welcome.

Very good point.

Good idea! Does is work? And does it address the smaller breeders (but still causing damage) or is it just for trainers?
This sounds so similar! I want to help other people but don’t want to be a “trouble-maker”. And there are also situations where the trainer owes money on horse sales, but nobody can call out bnt for fear of seeming like a “problem client”.
I know of a similar situation. Horse goes to trainer for training and to be sold. Horse gets sold, trainer continues to collect board from original owner who has no idea horse was sold. Unbelievable!
If the breeder I am thinking of, had not paid me, I would call them out in a heart beat. My BS meter went nuts the first time I interacted with this breeder, and I have always steered clear.

So let’s say you have asked this breeder repeatedly to be paid, and she always sweetly gives you a very sad excuse? Which were actually believable for a while until I see her on here shopping for stallions and by sheer luck, talked to somebody else with a similar experience and who knew of others. Stories include bad health, poor care caused by somebody else who let her down, check must have gotten lost in the mail, basically things that could happen to anybody which makes her all the more believable.

I hear you, can’t re.
I think quite a few do.

Small claims court can be our friend…although it can consume a lot of effort to get your money. However, if you have a judgement (even if you have not gotten your money) at least you have likely suit-proofed yourself against threats of legal action (bullying) when you are stating facts about someone-as those facts are part of a public legal record.

That is a very good point, omare. While people can’t get blood from a turnip, perhaps getting a judgment (no matter how worthless) is a wise decision. Sadly, most people feel it is just too much effort.

Anybody else having advertisements covering their PM’s with no X to delete them? Not trying to ignore anybody, thanks!

I have been for a couple days. Looks like formatting is way off.

Is there a way around it? I have lots of PMs that need to be replied to and want to respect people’s privacy by replying privately if that is what they want.

Here’s the problem with saying anything on a public forum, and one that came out LOUD AND CLEAR when this whole mess started. Saying anything negative about someone in a public forum results in that person’s advocates, groupies, friends, etc., jumping up and down and screaming foul. Add to that, who’s to say that the person saying anything “is” doing a smear campaign? Jill Burnell certainly has done that on multiple levels and against many stallions and their owners. So where does the truth lie, especially when things are initially heating up?

With JB, she attempted to do that with us, as well. And Barbara Sikkink TRIED to let people know but ended up getting painted as jealous by those who felt that “poor” Jill was the target of a jealous stallion owner/manager. There is absolutely NO easy solution here. Yes, you can go to small claims court and get a judgment, but that takes time and energy. And, if the suit is for $1500, the time consumed going to court can quickly eat up that sum - time “is” money. Consequently, most never pursue it. Add to that, once you “do” have the judgment, collecting the money is not necessarily going to be easy. I’ve certainly walked away from paid breedings because the semen that was shipped was absolutely useless, i.e., dead. After four shipments at $250/collection plus shipping, I cut my losses. What was my recourse? The stallion owner would happily continue to send me semen! Obviously if you’re dealing with an animal you’ve purchased, it’s a different can of worms, but it still isn’t an easy course to follow. Yes, the word needs to be out there, but how to do it in a way that won’t result with someone honest and that has truly been injured getting splattered with the back blast? Just a really, really sticky wicket to go down. :frowning:

Yes, and please do. I’m so very sorry for your experience!

I agree small claims can be a useless exercise but it seems it may be a good answer to the allegations of jealousy and also the bullying threats of a suit for slander etc that seem to e PMed to silence people. i know what a real time consuming pain it is.
