MISSING/STOLEN 17" TAD COFFIN A5G SADDLE FROM HITS CULPEPER

FOUND! This saddle went missing from the barn 1 aisle at HITS Culpeper this weekend. Given that other things were stolen nearby, it was likely stolen  but maybe someone picked it up by accident, so check what you brought home in case you have an extra saddle.

Tad Coffin, here is the serial number/flap info

A5G
2103
70 (which means 17")
1004

those are the serial numbers. It belongs to a really sweet kid. Please keep your eyes out for it on the used saddle market

Thanks all!

Some makers keep track of stolen saddles so they can report them if someone calls checking on a serial number, so you might pass this info on to Tad. I hope it turns up!

So sorry! Seems like a lot of saddles have been stolen/missing recently. Pam’s saddle is also missing.

  • Not sure if you contacted the police yet?
  • I’d contact a few of the used saddle places in the area, I Sell Tack, MD Tack Exchange, Middleburg Tack Exchange, Galloping Grape; as well as Tad to notify him.
  • Set up a Google Alert (if anything meeting the criteria you set up, is posted online it will send you an e-mail to alert you)
  • Check your home owners insurance, sometimes it covers saddles.

Is the owner local to the Central VA area?

Are there any cameras installed around the barn areas? That would be wishful thinking, but worth a try…

Oh no! Thats awful. Jingles to hope you find it-- I’ll keep my eye on the tack sale groups on Facebook.

I always wonder how much big items go missing from a show like HITS. Theres always people all over the place, braiders, night watch, grooms, riders, night checkers, how does it just slip away without anyone seeing or saying something?

Because a person walking out with a saddle or two is not going to raise any suspicions unless you happen to know that exact saddle and its owner.
It is a horse show, people come and go at all hours with stuff, one more person doing it (while stealing them) is not a huge red flag.

Night check didn’t see anyone because it happened in the middle of the day on Saturday. With 20 horses showing there are always times when there isn’t someone in the barn who would notice someone grabbing a saddle that didn’t belong to them.

I hate this. I’m so sorry. Also check eBay. Our horses are at Culpeper as well. I came back to the barn after riding earlier in the day on Sunday and my saddle was missing. I freaked out until I realized my friend was just out using it for another friend to ride with her. It’s nerve wracking. i hope you get it back.

FOUND! Apparently it accidentally walked home with someone who realized it later. Yay!

Glad the saddle was found !

Glad the saddle was found ! I would have been CRAZY !
