Misty of Chincoteague book report emergency

My daughter who is i the 3rd grade has a book report due. They were suppose to it based on any chapter book they have read since September. She read Misty of Chincoteague at my mother’s and we don’t have the book here! The big problem is that my daughter thinks they set Misty free at the end but I think she is wrong. Anybody remember? This is do tomorrow!!!

They set Misty’s mother, the Phantom free, but Misty stayed with Paul and Maureen at Grandpa Beebe’s.

At the end of the book, Paul lets Misty’s Mom, the Phantom, free. she runs away from the farm to once again join the stallion, Pied Piper. They swim back to Assateague Island.

Little Misty stays in the stall, and peeks out. She stays with the Beebe family.

PM me if you need anything else, the book happens to be right in front of me…found an old copy at a YS last weekend.

I knew I could depend on COTH for the answer! Its been sooooo long since I read this that I couldn’t remember! Thank you demidq

I read and loved the book years ago but haven’t read it in a long time so I probably shouldn’t volunteer my services.

I did want to chime in and say it is available in eBook form for a relatively inexpensive price:

There is a Kindle app you can download for free on your phone so you don’t need a Kindle to read the eBook version!

Good luck! I know you probably don’t feel like laughing tonight but I couldn’t help thinking of this meme when I read about your predicament:

Thanks spurgirl. Luckily, in third grade they only have to write a few sentences.

LOL

LOL at your thread title. Glad you were able to put out the fire.

I know the emergency is over LOL, but I just wanted to say that it was also available to borrow for free on Open Library. https://openlibrary.org/
There are a lot of old horse books on there including stuff like “The Horsemasters” available to read for free!

Thanks for that link. Just bookmarked it.

The title of this thread completely cracks me up. I am glad the emergency was averted. For future book report emergencies, Wiki often has a fairly good writeup of the plot of famous books

<<Paul and Maureen eventually break the Phantom to ride, and the next year Paul races her on Pony Penning Day. Phantom wins, but the next day becomes distressed when she sees the herd she once belonged to, led by a stallion called Pied Piper, being released to swim back to Assateague. Paul releases Phantom, and she gallops to join Pied Piper and the herd as they return to freedom on their ancestral island. Misty remains behind with Paul and Maureen.>>
