Modern Pentathalon

I can repost the Russian rider if anybody is interested but I just watched an interesting interview with the German commentator of the competition…

he suggested that the horses were disturbed by the huge stadium and the photographers… These are not competition horses who compete internationally every weekend but local horses from riding clubs of the area so for them this was a scary situation…. He said the photographer were told not to use flashlights to not scare the horses, so it seems to be a problem….

I think this is an interesting aspect which could contribute to the problem…. He said the World Cup competitions are different then the olympics. There problems arise on a regular basis because of the unique surrounding…

Excuses… maybe the horse had a bad hair day? Maybe his Russian handler didn’t deliver his mandatory 5lbs of nightly carrots… maybe Mars wasn’t aligned with Uranus? None of that excuses the German riders piss poor horsemanship or flailing like a toddler.

Mannis attitude here actually ties all the amateur/pro ranting together.

She believes all the credit or blame goes on the horse. That a better horse will give a better ride, despite the rider piloting. Whether drawn or bought, that the rider on the better horse has some impenetrable advantage. Which, if the riders were dead on equal, might be true.

But they’re not. They never are. Nor are the circumstances of the specific day.

Habitual blaming of something, anything, other than the skill and tact of the pilot aboard. A bad test is never the riders fault. It’s the systems fault.

Interesting. Wrong, but interesting. At least the thought process is consistent!

But based off that video, would you let her ride your horse? [quote=“Manni01, post:619, topic:762394, full:true”]
How do you know whether she is a good or bad rider… do you know her personally??

Another great contribution :grinning:. How do you know what my stand is?? You don’t… you simply make something up …

If the job description was “jump no matter how much your rider interfered or how hurt you were” then I truly think that this sport needs to have horses removed from it. Those horses are unicorn rare.

We’re all focused on the German debacle but really, a good half of those athletes needed to go back to cross rails and learn how to get off their horses faces & backs. And I truely would not have blamed a one of them for launching some of those riders given how hard some of them landed on their backs.

If bare competency is not expected of the riders, then they don’t get to bitch that they didn’t get the unicorn 1.2M jumper who could be given bad distance after bad distance and occasionally run through fence and still keep going without balking.

After this display, I kind’a expect the only volunteer horses the sport will get would be the sour and dirty - who’d want to risk their saintly jumper on a 50/50 crap shoot of a bad rider?

Based on the video, I would not let her feed my goldfish, if I had goldfish.

She showed absolutely no empathy whatsoever for another living creature under her supervision for those five minutes.

Yup based on the video I would let her ride my horse…. Why not….

Frankly, it’s embarrassing by now!

I’m glad that after the global outrage, the officials are reevaluating this incident, because Annika should be disqualified and fined just like K.Lemke was by Usef.

That’s all I ever need to know about your contributions here.

??? She is an experienced rider and rides about 3 times a week… why not…. My horse has to deal with me :grinning::grinning: so they would probably do well with her…. Don’t you think you are a little bit unreasonable?? Is your horse like Saint Boy?

Just a tiny question for JER because I am too lazy to look up the rules and I am not sure where to look…

Is a gag legal for the jumping part in Pentathlon?? I only rode horses with a gag when I played polo and I am very sure that I would never ride a jumper with a gag….

If you use it wrong it’s very harsh on the horse…. And I would not put a gag on a horse ridden by people who don’t know the horse…

I do think it’s kind’a funny that every video for this year’s pentathalon seems to be gone now. I wanted to go back and re-watch some of the other rounds and you can’t find a one of them still working anymore.

Right?!? I can’t find any videos from Rio either.

There are compilations of falls and crashes from this year on TikTok and Facebook though.

My best horse would likely flip over on her if she buried him in fences while ripping his face off. She is so incredibly fortunate that all he did was shut down and say no.

No credible horseman would witness her meltdown on that horse and then be open to her riding their own. I mean I can rattle off a list of riders who ride far more often than the German competitor who I wouldn’t allow on any of mine.

Did you ever think I am a credible horse person :grinning::grinning::grinning::grinning:. I don’t inject joints and I don’t give hormones to my mares So what can you expect :grinning::grinning::grinning:

I’d let her on mine but only if she rode in a neck rope, with no spurs, and no crop. My mare knows where the eject button is, she’d be fine.

Look up straw man argument. If that rider treated my horse like she did Saint Boy regardless of my horse’s performance I’d pull her off myself. It’s not about the damn horse Manni. It’s about how that woman handled the fustercluck. And she handled it like an insolent child. Perhaps in better conditions she rides like an angel. But when the shit hits the fan to spur and whip and weep is a pretty terrible look. I don’t care what award you’re trying to win. You are astride a living breathing animal. If you treat it like shit and then have a meltdown then that’s on YOU

How do you know she would treat my horse like shit?

And for the record I would never lend my horses to a pentathlon competition because I don’t agree with the rules…

Let’s pretend your horse didn’t want to play the day you let her ride. Would you be okay if she spurred your horse. Whipped him/her excessively and rode in a really disorganized manner? Then afterward. She told the world hey @Manni01 horse is a giant turd it’s not my fault I cried and tantrumed it’s Mannis f’ed up horse. See?
