Holy. Cow.
The rules allow him to get back on and compete after a fall like that?!? That seems… unwise. At best.

So “glad” to hear I am not the only one!!! I went away for a week and did not use my computer and I have not been able to get a stream or a replay to work AT ALL. I get “Your video will start shortly” and nothing happens.
I think I will try and watch through expat shield and bbc.
I can watch any other video by the way, just NO ctv. I uninstalled and re-installed Silverlight… restored to a date before I left… and nothing works… rather frustrating!!
it is ctvolympics.ca not .com… still it won’t work!
I just tried to use expat shield and go to BBC but you CAN NOT find the videos on that site to save your life! I looked and looked but you can’t find any replays!!
Horse Pulled over by Idiot Rider would be a more suitable headline.
I don’t know anything about pentathlon scoring for the riding phase, is it different then a regular show jumping round? Because I don’t understand how its possible to get 464 penalties!

You have to click on the yellow Schedule and Results tab, which gets you a table of all the events. Anything in yellow is what they call a “Catchup” ie a replay. Blue is for live.
Each rider starts out with 1200 points. They get deductions based on varying faults:
20 points for each fence knocked down
40 points for a refusal
60 points for falling off or for knocking down a fence during a refusal
4 points for every second over the optimum time for the course

So is there any way for them to be eliminated? Maybe there should be! Or do they just keep getting point deductions for multiple refusals?
I haven’t watched it yet. I’m not sure I want to.

He had 284 time faults and 180 jumping faults. The clock was running the whole time they were catching the horse and him getting back on. It’s 4 penalties points for every second over the time allowed. 20 penalties for every fence down, and 40 for a refusal. If you refuse and knock the fence down in the process, they stop the clock, but you get 60 faults (fence down + refusal).
The guy that won the gold had 68 faults in the jumping (3 fences down and 2 seconds over the time allowed). The silver medal winner had 120 faults.

Yes, one rider was eliminated for some technicality. I believe he went over the maximum time allowed. He had 860 faults, 560 jumping and 300 time.

THanks. I guess that expat thing or whatever doesn’t work and that’s why videos weren’t showing up.
It does not work on mac, but I am watching it right now. Lots of buffering but otherwise a great video and great commentators.
sent you a pm.
You have to make sure too that expat is connected.
oh, ya I am on a mac. So much for that!
Omigosh, I can’t even see it and I’m laughing out loud. Thank you (once again) Pentathlon for making me believe an Olympic ride is still within my grasp!
How is it that they can completely skip a fence and just continue on? A couple riders had issues and after a couple refusals, just moved on… that so didn’t make sense to me…
Yes. It’s the best sport ever.
For anyone else that might be interested, pentathlon is for all ages, even Masters. You can start any time in life.
QUOTE]
Masters? Really? I always wanted to try it, but I know I’m too old now. Yet I do still swim every day even though I haven’t raced in 30 years, and I ran college cross country, and fired expert 9mm/M16 in the Army for over 20 years. I just have no clue about fencing…wish I were younger (for a lot of reasons:) )
Bowsher, however, is funded as an Army athlete (the program is called World Class something or other) and really has no excuse for this glaring hole in his training.
Seems to me a letter to his commander is in order.
