Modern Snaffle Bridles to look at

It’s time for a new dressage bridle, preferably for the xmas list

It’s been eons since I’ve shopped, and I can’t believe the number of new ergonomic bridles on the market. SO, what are you suggestions?

  • Mare has traditionally gone best in a Micklem or drop noseband. Has a slightly offset tooth on the left side and a traditional noseband has to go down a couple of holes to make it work.

  • Has a face like a giant welsh pony: broad through the jaw and the brow, but short from muzzle to ear, with a fairly delicate nose. Need to be able to order in parts or customize (think WB sized crown and browband, horse sized noseband, and cob size cheeks).

-Seems happier in a padded or monocrown design

  • I’m picky about reins due to a hand injury and prefer to buy them seperately

thoughts?

Does Just Bridles have anything left? They sold pieces and parts.

I wonder if Bobby’s would put something together, or piece it out?

Maybe? I think they can work with measurements, I know I saw them helping a lady “in between sizes” at the booth at Equine Affair this weekend.

I just picked up one this weekend and I am bummed I did not know about them sooner. The leather quality is wonderful and there are a lot of small details that show attention to the craft and workmanship. The leather is soft and supple right off the rack and is on par with a $300 bridle. I picked mine up with reins for $150.

I am picky about reins too but like the ones that come with the bridle I got: they’re web but they’re on the thinner side and have sharp contrast stitching and webbing that really pops and goes well with the brown of the bridle. Mine has a blackish brown (I thought it was black, it’s much darker than in the pics) patent noseband and dark stitching which looks lovely against the havana leather.

It fits my guy well, he sounds just like your horse except a big version: he has a short head (Full) with a broad jaw (OS) and a Tyra Banks forehead. He has always been between sizes: takes a F/S crown/cheek piece but needs an OS nose and brow. I bought the bridle in a F/S and I have to say that it actually fits him very well: the nose is a little too small but with stretching will do fine, and the browband is perfect. The padded crown piece reminds me a lot of the Micklem, it’s nearly identical in shape and width.

If it helps any, it seems to fit/run almost exactly the same as the Passier Ingrid Klimke bridle I got.

Thanks, but I’m specifically looking for something that’s a variation on a drop or Micklem.

Anyone know what Valegro is wearing in the opening sequence of the tribute video? That’s the type of thing I’m looking for… although I suspect that one would in fact be bank breaking, if not completely custom

Oh… Why not try a PS of Sweden?

I think Valegro’s tack is IR Bridles --iirc, they are a sponsor. Found this:

They have a drop.

looks like a Tota Comfort noseband attached? Maybe?

That would break the bank: the Tota alone is ~$360.

I think Eponia does have a drop option; I saw one available at their stand @ EA.

See, I thought Tota at first as well, but it seems a lot more delicate? Could be a custom… The PS ones are on the right track, but I like the subtlety of the one in the video.

Valegro doesn’t go in a Tota but Barney does most of the time. PS of Sweden is how I would go if you want a nice Micklem-type! They mixed and matched for me, my horse needed warmblood sized everything but his noseband. I’m super duper pleased with the way he goes in it.

The Stubben Freedom Bridle is also amaaaazing during riding, even though it’s a bit more utilitarian in appearance: https://www.centerlinestyle.com/stubben-freedom-bridle/

I believe this Stubben bridle is not permitted by USDF/FEI, but I could be mistaken. May not even be an issue if the OP is not showing.

Schlockenmoel offers a snaffle with a dropped noseband. Very nice, and not expensive. THey switched out the noseband for me - so I imagine they will work with you regarding sizes. We have a dealer here in Ocala. http://schockemoehle.net/en/horse/bridles-co./bridles/?p=1

I just learned of a bridle maker called “Flexi-fit” and you can google it - you can order your bridle piece by piece and get different sizes for each part of the bridle if you need to. I hear the quality is pretty good for the price; my coach has one and I thought the leather was quite nice.

I think you mean flexible fit - I have 3 bridles from them.

I have one of these http://www.shop.sabreleather.co.uk/sabre-cordoba-german-silver-padded-drop-snaffle-comfort-bridle-768-p.asp

Lovely leather and fits my boy really well. I especially like the drop noseband ring style. It’s angled to fit perfectly. I did switch out the brownband for something with a little spice.
