A friend is moving to Montana in about a year. She just started showing in stock horse shows down here and loves it but can’t find anything similar in Montana. Does anyone know of any associations, shows, competitions, etc. that have low key fun western type stuff in Montana? She mostly showed trail and pleasure and does not like high pressure competition.
There’s a couple of really active chapters of Backcountry Horsemen around the state, who also do some “fun” show activities like packer’s races, obstacle courses/trail challenges, etc… also a couple of great ranch sorting/team penning arenas in the western part of the state. Lots of barrel jackpots and team roping competitions all over. Billings area used to see a lot of show action, but I live too far from there now and I don’t know what’s going on over there. Sorry I can’t give you more info! I would recommend contacting any listed trainers in the area where she’s moving to, and I’m sure they’ll have a better schedule.
