Cute! I learned to jump on a Morgan/QH cross and my first horse I was seriously considering a Morgan who had a lot of eventing experience. I absolutely adore Morgans.
Was exposed to some Morgan’s when I lived in a horsey, semi rural area of So Cal in tne 60s and 70s. Neat, jack of all trades breed in general with several distinct types for specific disciplines and alot of middle of the road type individuals that can do anything you ask. Most have a very sensible outlook on life, rather like many QHs. They always say yes ma’am, not “huh” or “nope, not going to and you can’t make me”. Born broke with a pre installed work ethic.
Reason you don’t see many is it’s not a large breed numbers wise and it’s not a large breed physically. In this day of giants they have sort of been lost to those with their focus on 17.2 handlers.
It’s a good, common sense choice for educated horsemen. Suspect there’s some WBx Ponies out there Jumping around,
For OP, this one is your keeper. He’s going to be easier by nature and a lot more fun then dealing with quirks and temper. Plus he’s a pretty palomino and will always make you smile when you get to the barn. That’s priceless.
Pheonixrises this guy was actually from Saskatchewan Canada! And findeight thank you for the interesting insights. I absolutely adore this guy, but have to list him this month just in case my mare does not sell. Hoping to find him an amazing forever home, he truly is special. I’m thinking I’ll definitely have to have more Morgans in my future!
One of my foxhunting ponies is a Morgan and he is also a super jumper. He’s also very bold and brave - though he’s only 13.2 there have been numerous times he’s had to give much bigger horses in the hunt field a lead over a scary looking obstacle. Mine was bred with the idea that he’d be a 14-15h dressage horse and we do take lessons with an eventing trainer and have entered some dressage schooling shows at low levels, but he is happiest out in the hunt field at a strong gallop with a big coop in the way.
