Most comfortable blinker hood? (To be used long term for eye protection).

I have a horse with a blind and now inflamed eye that needs impact and UV protection. Regular masks and the Guardian don’t provide the impact protection we need. His head is between regular horse and oversized, and is a a tricky fit.

I have a blinker hood for him now but he gets rubbed under the cup, and it’s a bit skimpy overall anyway.

Any suggestions for something that may be more comfortable? I’ve never tried one with stretchy straps or made from Lycra. Do they stay in place or stretch out quickly? Where can I find more flexible cups than the really hard plastic? Any suggestions at all? I can’t find a website for Finish Line in OK. I know they make nice stuff. If anyone has a link there, I’d appreciate that too.

TIA!

I’m afraid I do not know - I used a regular hood and the hard (plexiglass) cup when my guy tore his eyelid in summer and we needed to protect the stiches and keep bugs out of there. I have to say, it was a PITA to keep the cup clean and in place, but it did work out fine. My hood had velcro and that did stay attached.

Here is the link to the Finish Line store locator:

tfloki.com I think. The Finish Line OK inc .

Faye at Victory Silks makes mine, she uses a thin material that I think is much cooler and Velcro straps rather than too snug hook and loop fasteners. All of mine also have a thin extra later of padding around the cups. I’m sure she knows where to get some to sew on, lovely company to work with. www.victorysilks.com

Thanks for the help, guys. The Finish Line site is back up, and they have some that are promising looking (similar to the model shown at Big Dee’s). They have a Standardbred size, which is probably what he needs. Just a big horse size, but not WB type. The mesh might be nice for summer wear, if required, although probably not as stretchy,

Victory Silks looks promising, too. Thanks for the info on them. Will keep them in mind.

ETA: would you know that on eBay right now there is a brand new Finish Line set, in the right size with a full cup over the correct eye…
I WISH it wasn’t black, because that doesn’t seem like it would be so comfy in the summer, BUT for half the price… hmm…

Get an Eye Saver, it is designed for this purpose I just went through it for my mare. You can order them from the manufacturer or other sources.
