Most traditional RID stallions (fresh available preferred) for TB mare

I am curious what stallions one might point to in the RID rooster for …

Temperament, temperament, temperament as the most paramount quality. Low level (prelim and below) eventing, 4th level and under (most likely) dressage, etc. ammy friendly all-rounder type w/ excellent temperament

Height or a proven history of throwing height

Very traditional, 10 inch bone, short canon bone, really true to type RID w/ typical Irish head, soundness, etc.

I have an elegant long legged Thoroughbred mare who I do not want to “lighten” at all but rather instead improve bone. Good temperament, athletic, nice moving already herself. Happy to provide photos/videos to people who’d like it. Disclaimer: Foal is for my personal use.

Just two of many wonderful RID stallions: Steeped in Luck (16.3, 10" bone) doing Grand Prix dressage; Lionwood Kinsale’s Lad (16.1, 10" bone) shown through I1. I believe both are known for having great temperaments. We have a Kinsale’s Lad (Angus) son who has a wonderful temperament and is quite a bit taller than his sire.

Can’t resist. A few more to check out. Bellwether Farms Heathercombe Calico, Celtic Moon and Foxglen Himself. Manu Forti’s Touchdown (Kate Triplett). Dandelion Diamond Rebel. Bridon Belfrey. KEC Double Diamond. Addictive!

^^^Good suggestions those. About covers it.

I really like the stallion Braveheart as well. He is in Texas, and his sire O Learys Irish Diamond is my mares sire. I watched him in a demo, and was very impressed with him. If I am not mistaken he is shown by his ammie owner. All of the above though are good suggestions.

We have the approved Irish Draught stallion Beeston Laird. We breed a larger number of foals so we have a good sense of what he can produce on a variety of mares. You need to consider what you are looking for in your resulting horse, what are you producing for…a heavyweight or middle weight field hunter, a max prelim level eventer, an upper level eventer, a dressage horse to 2nd level or a grand prix dressage horse, an all purpose horse, an all purpose weight carrier, are all types(and more) you can get from Irish Draughts standing in the US. Some stallions are more warmblood like but have great Irish Draught temperaments, some have had the opportunity to advance their training but many don’t have the financials to keep their stallions in full time training, that does not mean they are unable but that the didn’t get the chance. From our stallion Laird you will get Irish Draught substance and height…17+ hands is possible. He is a true traditional Irish Draught, rectangular, powerful loin, very short shins and a long forearm, large joints, on a very large frame and we are finding he will add bone and height. We are getting very uphill builds and he is lifting the set of the neck. From substance we get more. From lighter boned TB and warmblood mares he adds bone but they can still be elegant. The mares tend to determine the head and ears, though we have not seen the end result of these crosses as his previous offspring were from TB mares mostly. A couple of his older get have been quite accomplished in eventing with amateur and junior owners. There are other stallions who will produce a more compact athlete, some won’t add so much bone and substance but will still give that Irish Draught temperament and ease of use. Some stallions, who have had the chance, have advanced to upper levels, most notably currently in dressage, another is excelling in eventing. So define what you are after and then I bet you can find an Irish Draught stallion who has shown they can contribute to that.

I was also going to suggest Steeped in Luck.
He is owned by friends of mine, and was started U/S by other friends, and his temperament is stellar. As was already mentioned, he is competing at GP dressage.
I’ve seen a few of his foals out of full TB mares, and they are lovely, and the oldest are starting their performance careers.

Thanks mstraebel for the vote of confidence on our boy, Manu Forti’s Touch Down RID! yes he IS a very traditional Irish Draught, the very heart and soul of the breed in my personal opinion. He’s 16:3 and has a 10-5/8" cannon, moves lightly on a good broad Irish foot and has the BEST temperament. His daughters, out of our excellent TB mares, are the best horses we have bred, over a fairly long career of making champions.

My TB mare just foaled a big, gorgeous and leggy ISH colt by Crystal Crest RID who is in Andrew Palmer’s yard in Dothan, AL. This colt could not be sweeter. Already adores getting scritches and is easily handled. This is his mom’s first foal too. Mare is 16.3 and I understand Cruz is 16.2.

I have to step up and mention Bridon Beale Street 17 hh. He’s by Mountain Pearl, known for a good temperament.
I bred my TB/WB mare to him. Mare is 16 hands. Filly came out scary big boned (never seen a foal that big, both vets and farrier commented on it). She is 16 months old now, 16hh in the rear, 15.2 at the withers. The mare only needed good temperament to improve on her. So far this filly is so confident and has a pocket pony personality. She doesn’t let anything bother her for long and that includes my son’s remote control dump truck zooming by her stall while she’s eating dinner. She had more bone on her at 1 year than her mother does now.
