Mountain Horse Richmond Field Boot vs. Donatello Field Boot by Tredstep

Currently I have Mountain Horse Richmond Field boots and they are on their last leg and am no longer able to/willing to repair them. I just need to get new boots! I am looking at the Donatello Field Boots by Tredstep.

Does anyone know if there is a big size difference between the two? Does one run smaller or bigger than the other?

Thanks!

I found the Donatello to be slightly shorter and slightly wider through the calf than the Mountain Horse (although I don’t know WHICH Mountain Horse model I tried).

I think they may be comparable, but keep in mind MH has a different ‘housing’ - I find MH is more tube-like while Donatello has a thin cut, especially through the ankles. MH has a bigger/wider footbed. Tredstep runs true to size in the foot.

I really like my Donatellos, but I am disgruntled because while they are a year out of the box, they have only been worn about 10-15 times (shows/clinics only) and they already have a hole where the thread/stitching connecting the zipper sheath to the leather has broken. Having worked with the company that sells them, I can say we did have customers who returned them frequently because they aren’t made for extensive, everyday wear.

I found the Tredstep boots only fit a very specific leg shape well and tend to run narrower than many other boots through and just above the ankle.

Well that is disappointing. I need a boot for everyday riding. Any suggestions? Nothing over $350

You could get 2 or 3 pairs of the MH Venezia Field Boots for that budget, as they’re on sale a bunch of places for a ridiculously low price! I bought 2 pairs and like them a lot. I was kind of on the line between calf sizes, so since I am still fluctuating post-baby, I bought one in each of the borderline sizes. The bigger ones have room for thick socks; the smaller ones are super snug but have discreet multiple elastic panels and seem like they’ll break in to be just right. They are very fitted through the ankle, the quality seems really good, and they are very comfortable for my feet, which are a bit wider than average but not super wide. Can’t speak to durability as I haven’t had them very long.

It doesnt look like they make men’s sizes in those. I am really at a loss and it’s difficult as there is no place to really try them where I am located.

Actually, I think I am going to go with Ariat Mens Heritage Contour Field boot.
