Mounted archery

Is anyone involved with mounted archery? How did you get involved? It’s something that I have been a little interested in lately (something different than dressage which is what I do).

If anyone involved is in WA state, is there a way to try it out on a lesson horse if one does not have access?

There’s a mounted archery group in my area (PA) and they do clinics/lessons with horses provided for people just getting started (since obviously it’s easier to learn when the horse already knows the drill). We had them do a demo for our equestrian club, and I’ve been meaning to try to get to a clinic ever since but it just hasn’t worked out for me yet.

It looks like this is a place in Washington that may be able to help you get started and has links to a bigger club: https://www.facebook.com/p/Valkyrie-Mounted-Archery-100064054334326/

Suggest looking at the Mounted Archery website

There should be a list of instructors and organizations on the web page.

Pix is my horse Will (now retired) and me --now I ride my back up horse to compete. Don’t know if I will start another --at 74 I’m less enthusiastic about starting young horses!

If there’s a local SCA group, they usually have mounted archery as part of the program.
