Moving a tractor long distance

Has anyone had a tractor moved commercially across country? Many years ago I moved my truck and they just drove it right into the moving van and it didn’t cost much.

I want to keep my tractor (low hours and good machine). To move it means driving over 50 hours, and gas for all that (plus a decent flatbed, which we’ll be getting anyway). I’d love to have it moved for us. My DH shipped a car by rail once and that wasn’t too bad… Anyone have experience with long distance tractor shipping.

And yes, we might just sell it and buy a new one, but I don’t think I can find one with as low hours for what we can get for ours out there…not even close…

Previous homeowner left her JD behind and it was picked up by U-Ship after she had already moved to So Carolina.

We have moved our 45hp New Holland and implements all over the country, wherever the military sends us. We have a 36’ deckover flatbed and it is a game of Tetris to get it all to fit, but we do. Chains and binders and straps and away we go. For us, it is the only way to move. It would cost us a fortune to move all the implements if we couldn’t do it ourselves.

Are you also moving horses? The horse shippers took out little herd, plus the tractor and assorted implements. Worked out great. Was really nice to not have to coordinate Yet Another shipping vendor.

When I moved across country, I debated moving my 14 ish year old JD (4400). My company paid for my move, excluding the horses and the JD. They would, however, have moved a car. I priced it out and it was the price of moving a vehicle so a few thousand dollars. Since I was moving 6 horses, 4 dogs, 2 goats and a mini- I opted to sell my JD to the people who bought my farm. They hold their value extremely well and I bought a new (smaller) JD.

Looking back, I was super stressed about the move (my dad was dying of cancer when I had to be relocated) and I would have shopped around for more prices (I got 2). I probably didn’t save any money long term selling and then downsizing and buying a new (smaller) tractor. At the time it was the best decision I could make under the circumstances.

They put it on a flatbed and move it. So call around to trucking companies that special in moves and get prices.

Yeah, but I use smaller vendors for that typically only with horse trailer. But I can ask! thanks

Yes, there’s a lot going on so this is a stressful move for me. trying to avoid as much additional stress as I can…

Last company move I did, I wrote moving the horses into the contract! That was a great deal. I’m on my own this time…

My tractor probably has a high value, but limited selling opportunity in the local area…

​​​​​​You’re going to want a big rig with air ride for a 50 hour haul, not just some guy with a regular horse trailer.

We used Holly Hill and they were AMAZING. Highly recommend!

Thanks, won’t be a 50 hour ride, That’s round trip, one way is 25 hours (which is still hard on them, I know). I appreciate the recommendation, I have had good luck with a couple of local guys. I’ll check into Holly Hill

Minnesota to Connecticut was about that. Horses came straight through with Holly Hill and walked off like they walk out of their stalls everyday.

Colorado to Minnesota, a few years before, was 16. Horses that shipped in a regular trailer were TIRED. For a few days. And those were my younger, soundest ones The other two were shipped professionally in stall and a halfs and faired much better, but the old lady was still a little gassed. Standing in one spot was a little much for her, I think.

It’s worth it to put them in boxes on a big rig. I don’t even consider anything else for long hauls anymore.
