moving the Preakness?

Belinda Stronach says Preakness to stay in Baltimore.

And this BH article about a public and private investment to rebuild Pimilico.

On an unrelated side note, does Belinda Stronach remind anyone else of a Disney Villainess?

Actually she says Maryland, not Baltimore.

THE RACING BIZ: Is it your intention that the Preakness and racing remain in Maryland?

BELINDA STRONACH: Yes, yes, yes.

THE RACING BIZ: Where does the ongoing Maryland Stadium Authority study on the future of Pimlico fit into that vision?

BELINDA STRONACH: I don’t know what the Stadium Authority is going to say yet. Our intention is to continue to invest in the sport, make it great, and Maryland is a huge part of that.

Noooooo…!!! Just because she was a politician does not make her bad. She shows her common sense and goodness of heart by getting out of politics and into racing!

That exchange doesn’t bode well for Pimlico, if she can’t come out and say something more positive than that. It sounds like they are planning on using the Maryland Stadium Authority as the bad guy. As in, “they said we have to spend $$$ in order to bring it to standard, and…”

Umm, yeah. It’s going to cost a ton of money to renovate/reinvent Pimlico, and if it doesn’t make cents/sense, why do it? It’s a business, not a charity. I think the big number will come out, Stronach will state they are willing to put $X up for the project, but the rest will have to come from somewhere else. If you feel so strongly about it, put your money where your mouth is and find/start a fund/charity to save Pimlico.
