Mr. Blondie & the Beagles - 31 January 2010

This album should be accessible to anyone, FB member or not. I was able to view it while not logged in to FB.

We hunted at one of our western fixtures yesterday - over an hour’s drive for Mr. Blondie & me (I drove; he ate). I realize this is nothing for many of you, but I’m spoiled by having fixtures maybe 20 minutes away.

As it turned out, the hunt was very short - only an hour - so I spent more than twice as much time travelling as I did in the saddle. Oh, well… it was a lovely day.

I believe we had 8 couple of hounds out, and they ran a LOT. The ground was soft (compared to what it usually is) - the horses were sinking in 1/2" to 1". Hence the short hunt. After an hour, no one in the first flight had any horse left. And even The Short Bus was sweaty & huffing a bit.

I long-lined Mr. Blondie the day before, but elected not to longe him at the fixture. Still on the SmartCalm Ultra and Ulcergard. Still in his eggbutt snaffle with a bean. Still had his hot Peruvian chica girlfriend (and for the 2nd half of the hunt, another babe - Silhouette the Appy).

With the exception of a few canter strides as we came out of a depression, we walked & trotted (and stood, now & then) the entire time. LOTS of trotting. My thighs are sore today

But he was very good - not even a head shake or any rooting at the bit. And after about half an hour, he even got soft in the bridle (he has a tendency to take a lot of contact when he’s on a mission).

Not ready to let him canter out on flat ground yet, but I feel encouraged that things are getting better between us.

Onward & upward.

Ruh-roh! You’re in for it now!!!

Being the superstitious thing that I am…if it was me…my next hunt would be a doozie! Break out the ace! Sometimes they just lull you into thinking they are gonna be good and suddenly you’re airborne so lookout!:lol::lol::lol:

Oh and I’d never wish to be “upward”!!! ;) Onward good! Good luck anyway! We are jealous…getting another 6 inches of snow right now on top of the 5 we had on saturday AND now a northeaster planned for this weekend. WE…ARE…DOOMED!!

Oh and I love that description of heavy footing you gave! For us in mudland, it’s sinking 4-6 inches that’s difficult! Yowza!!

This Sunday, we’re back at one of our hilly fixtures, so he might actually get to canter

(He likes to canter up the little short hills, and we generally do, because - to date - he always stops at the top. I think maybe he likes how cantering makes his blonde butt look, so he does it to impress the ladies.)

Perhaps some day we will actually go with the first flight.

Or not.

At least it’s better than prancing in circles in an arena on a Sunday morning.

Well, I’m glad someone is out having a good time.

(as I prepare to shovel the driveway and prepare for not one, but two more snowstorms. grumble grumble (!)@&%$@)!! :dead: )

I’m really happy for you, RAR. Happy hunting!

JSwan et al,
Oh, down here we have snow AND mud. I am soooo happy. More predicted for this weekend-wintery mix, they call it. Crap, I call it.
And I am still scraching my blonde head over this one: Scene last week: weather is snowy, windy, cold, as in teens and single digits at night, etc. etc. etc. Horses are all out in the elements whooping it up or staying down the hill munching hay.
Scene the last two days: temps in the upper 30’s, not much wind, light wintery mix: horses have sequestered themselves in the barn or on occasion, decide to gallop around in the slop. At least they have the decency to roll in the shavings, not the mud. Knock on wood.

Oops-forgot to add…

RAR, which one is the hot chica Peruvian? The bay?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Ruby the Hot Peruvian Chica - you should see those front legs fly as she’s motoring across the desert!

She’s 13.2h and has no trouble keeping up with 15.2h Mr. Blondie (at the trot, at least - but Our Mr. Blondie is not exactly known for his speed :D)

RAR-
Interesting hunt colors on Chica’s owner. Buchanan plaid?
Rain, snow, sleet, ice predicted for our general area. Enjoy your nice winter weather and keep us posted on Mr. Blondie’s adventures.

yes! our colors are the Buchanan plaid! some members have made vests too. i think it looks great.

Excellent eye, 3dogfarm!

Mr. Blondie (and Prozac Pony, but not in the same session) has a bomb-proofing clinic tomorrow with the Scottsdale Mounted Police - that should be fun! And then Sunday, we expect to hunt again. Panda-chan has a play date with a 3-year-old & a 5-year-old on Sunday, so the latest adventures of Mr. Blondie might not be up until Monday.

Wait - many of us are going to be trapped in our homes this weekend - we can’t wait until Monday for an update!!!

Gack! Update us on the clinic! Please - before we all go mad with cabin fever.
